The Path Not Taken
By Tat
"Rubedo! Please don't. . ." Albedo groped for words and sputtered, "don't let go!"
The red head's loosening grip on his brother's hand tightened, hit with the realization that he was almost willing to leave his brother in the fray. "I promise." Rubedo gave a reassuring smile, weakening as U-DO crept closer. Bursts of energy shot at his body (as well as the other URTVs), itching through his nerves, it felt as if lightening had struck him- he couldn't will himself to move. He keeled over, twitching until he crumbled completely to the metal floors as a heap of flesh.
Albedo rubbed his arms, recovering from the delightful shock. He grinned ear to ear, drunk on U-DO's existance, laughing at the ones who had sent them out to destroy it. "I know everything. . ." he breathed joyfully. "What do you think Rube-." He choked on the name, finally noticing the stiff body before him.
Jr. set the polished his Markov pistol in his lap, and propped his feet on the glass coffee table. He picked up other Markov pistol on the table behind him and tentavly began to polish it, returning to his thoughts. Hours ago, on Proto Merkabah Albedo had called him a traitor, berrating him for not keeping a childhood promise.
I'll never leave you behind.
At that time of confrontation,
Jr. rashly defended himself, pointing his guns, refusing to hear
anymore as the guilty truth poured over his conscious. With that
passed and sitting in his red cushioned chair, his previous rage
seemed non-existant. Like music calms the beast, the act of attending
to his weapons soothed him, allowing him to gather his thoughts
without rush. He began to wonder, what if Albedo was sitting across
him right now? sitting like a king on the loveseat, slouching
slighly, his head propped up by the heel of his hand. Jr. looked
across, the image clear in his head.
Albedo would say those words
from before but instead of growling in anger, Jr. would lift his blue
eyed gaze, and slowly tell Albedo he was sorry as he rythmically
polished his firearms. "I could have died." He would pause,
waiting for a snarky reply. ". . . so even though we're on
opposing sides. . ." The red head would shake his head in
embarrassment until Albedo insisted he continue.
"You're not completly alone."
A/N: I wrote this for a contest on XL, the prompt was as the title, "The Path Not Taken". I'll admit I don't think this is my best work but it does have it's good points, which must have been seen since I won the contest. Yay me! There's a new contest up and someone just put their entry up and people have been raving about it. I'll have to work extra hard- I have competition! Thanks for reading.
