The end of all you'll know

By Any Unborn Child

I own nothing.

Never try to trick me with a kiss
Pretending that the birds are here to stay;
The dying man will scoff and scorn at this.

A stone can masquerade where no heart is
And virgins rise where lustful Venus lay:
Never try to trick me with a kiss.

It was different.

Actually being with him.

Not just being there.

Not just being in the same room as him, even in the same harsh enviroment as him.

But just being.

Being.

With him.

Yusei….

The guy she had dueled against.

The guy she had beaten to a pulp.

And yet he comes back.

She comes back?!

It was weird.

It was awkward.

It was a first time for both of them.

Now that she thought of it, it would have looked like something else other than….whatever it was they were doing.

But they managed through it.

It was not perfect.

It was a trial run.

He didn't get to explore everything he got the chance to.

Neither did she.

But what did they know?

They were kids.

Practically.

It didn't feel like it though.

She couldn't deny that they had both gone through a lot in their lives.

Yusei had dealt with a lot of pain and suffering, some of which no one should have to endure.

She didn't deny the same for her.

For a long time, she had always looked out for herself.

She was always alone.

But it wasn't until she had met Yusei that she had realized how she really felt.

She had felt lonely.

All the time.

She never truly had anyone she could depend on.

Someone to take care of her.

It was all very confusing.

She looked to her left, and saw him.

Yusei had fallen asleep.

As far as she could tell, he never slept.

Funny – she must have been preoccupied with her thoughts.

She didn't notice that he had fallen into slumber.

Huh.

Hesitating at first, she pushed his charcoal and saffron-colored bangs aside and felt his forehead.

It was wet with perspiration.

Figures.

She noticed his chest going up and down, in deep and rhythmic time.

There was still time, she thought.

Maybe the "love" thing she had heard so much about in her early years wasn't a mystery after all.

Maybe it still was.

Where could it have gone?

Who knew?

She sure didn't.

Out of impulse, for no apparent reasoning other than of sudden heat, she kissed his forehead, and then his lips.

She could still taste the salt.

From the corner of her eye she could see that the time was 3:28 in the morning.

She should really go to sleep.

Following suit, she crawled under the dry, foreign covers, and closed her eyes.

She scooted a little bit towards Yusei's sleeping form.

And a little bit more.

And a little bit more.

She let her thoughts swirl and hang around in her head until she finally went into oblivion.

She would figure it out later.

Title inspired by song of the same name by Scott Matthew, and the little bit of poem in the intro was from "Never Try To Trick Me With A Kiss" by the poet Sylvia Plath.
