Language of Nature

Center of the dance floor, the lights dim down

People pair off all around.

I shuffle my feet, look down at the floor

Colors surge like waves on the shore.

Warmth on my shoulder, I lift my eyes

My insides overflow with butterflies.

I hide my nerves and take your hand

Feeling your cool skin like the nighttime sand.

Slowly we sway together as one

Completely oblivious to everyone.

You hold me closer, whisper in my hair

I feel your warmth like the sun's molten glare.

You run your hand down my arm

And I instantly feel safe from harm.

Baby, this is too surreal

Like a magnificent sunset, it doesn't seem real.

I take a step back, search your face

Taking in your features, my heart begins to race.

You murmur my name, I close my eyes

Seeing in my mind a full moon rise.

You move closer, cupping my chin

Fluttering your eyes closed as I lean in.

As our lips touch, I wake with a start

Feeling another earthquake shatter my heart.
