"Dean?"
It's just a whisper, barely a sound. So soft Dean doesn't hear it … well, almost. It's dark outside, three, maybe four in the morning and the room is silent and obscure, only lit by the glow of the clock radio.
"Dean?"
This time, the voice is a little stronger, almost a whine. Demanding.
Dean groans and buries his head in his pillow, praying for his brother to shut up and to go back to sleep.
"Dean!"
"What!"
"Please … Dean …"
"No!" he barks, before bringing back his cover over his head.
"Please … just a look …"
"For Christ sake Sammy ! You're twenty three, you're a big boy, a hunter, you kick demon's asses every day and you're afraid of …"
"I know," Sam whispers, a little ashamed. "But please, could you …"
Dean grumbles, wide awake now, and with a sigh he props himself onto his forearm, dangles his legs off the mattress and sits up.
As he stands up, he catches the form of his brother in the bed behind him but Sam turns his eyes away immediately. Well, he better stay quiet because it's the kind of moment, the kind of thing Dean could use as blackmail for a long, long time. Maybe better than that photograph, the one with Sam and his pink t-shirt …
Dean stops in front of the window and scrutinizes the darkness for an instant. There's nothing out there. Just a few trees, some bushes and an old and tired street lamp. Nothing threatening. Absolutely nothing. Such normality is almost boring
"So?"
Sam's voice makes him coming back to his bed.
"What do you want me to say … there's nothing outside. I swear to god Sammy, it's the last time I let you watch this movie!"
Ok, the movie is a little scary – hey, it's based on Stephen King's works, one of the best according to Dean even if he prefers "The Shining" – the plot is good and well, the creature is ugly but it's really the last time he will let Sam convince him to watch this movie.
"I wanted to see if I could watch it." Sam protests. "It was … cathartic!"
"Catawhat? You know what Sammy, I can see your lips moving but I don't understand a word!" Dean retorts with a scowl. "Now if you want, I'm gonna try to catch some sleep. And Sammy, don't wake me up if the horrible clown comes to catch you!"
"Jerk!" Sam protests, but just before switching off the light, he looks over the room and all around him. Just to be careful.
Because the stupid clown is really scary, no matter what his brother thinks!
