Riverside Peace
I stumbled down the old beaten dirt path,
Unable to admire the beauty of the forest around me.
I could only think of home.
It was late spring or possibly early summer.
I was no longer aware of silly things like the seasons,
Or time.
Everything was lush and green.
So full of life. I knew I should think it beautiful,
But I could not.
I stopped somewhere along the path.
A once mighty river was now more of a creek.
I do not think it cared about size. Just its movement.
At a slow and steady pace it just kept going.
I stared, for I had never seen something so peaceful.
I knew at that moment my journey had ended.
My wounds ached.
They told me home wasn't what I was looking for.
This I what I wanted, what I needed.
I dropped my sword and shield, they were so heavy.
I had been fighting for so long.
I wanted nothing more than the peace the river had to offer.
Everything else seemed dull and unnecessary.
It was time to find peace,
And I did by the riverside.
No more wars for me to fight.
Peace at last.
