Summary: A redo of the last scene in 8x09. Blue and White are the colours Eli David sees the world in.
Blue and White
Eli placed the small Israeli flag in her pen pot. He looked at the flag he had served since he was eighteen and standing in an olive uniform. Eli only sees the world in two colours now, blue and white the colours of Israel. She looked up, her eyes were watering her lip fought the urge to smile. He looked deep into her eyes. She stayed seated even when he put his hand out to greet her. Eli understood, she was in America now, he no longer controlled her. She was no longer his.
Eli walked away, toward the silver elevator. He was good at walking away, at least that's what his ex-wife claimed. But with each stride Eli felt regret flood him like the red sea floods the golden sands at high tide. He wondered just for a brief moment how life would be if he had refused to allow Ziva to volunteer for mossad or even if he had quit mossad when she was born like he had promised Rivka when she thrust her enlarged belly in front of him telling him to feel the unborn baby kick. Eli let out a small sigh regrets were fruitless now, regrets would not bring Tali back, regrets would not bring Ari back with a good soul, regrets did not mean Ziva had not killed her half brother on his orders, regrets did not mean that he had not left Ziva to die in Africa.
Liat and Malachi were standing by the elevator.
"Are you a member of the mile high club?" Malachi uttered to Liat. She smiled.
"Only since I was fifteen" she replied with a slight laugh.
"Really" Malachi uttered elongating the word in surprise. Eli briefly considered slapping the two oversexed officers, it seemed to work for Gibbs.
Laughter shattered Eli's musings. He slowly turned to look at the bullpen. Ziva was standing up, next to Abby. Their arms were around one another. DiNozzo was saying something stupid, that Eli did not hear. What was spoken was irrelevant. Ziva erupted into a fit of giggles. Gibbs walked through the bullpen, McGee in tow and smacked DiNozzos head. A small smirk crossed Gibbs face.
"Sir" Malachi said as Liat held the elevator doors open.
"I have never seen Ziva so happy" Eli uttered. It was all he had ever wanted for her. Since the rainy November night when an exhausted and sore Rivka handed him the mewing bundle wrapped in pink, after eighteen hours of swearing and screaming. "It is all I ever wanted" he whispered.
Eli walked to the elevator. He had once vainly hoped to return from his trip to America, with Ziva back in his life. He now knew he would never get that, she was happy in America, she was her own woman. She was free and no longer his.
As the plane soared over the Atlantic ocean and Liat and Malachi tried to muffle their activities in the bathroom. Eli closed his eyes. Ziva's laughter echoed in his head, a reminder not to destroy it like he had destroyed everything else.
A/N: Because me and some other people did not like the ending of 'Enemies Domestic' I wrote this. To be honest the scene would have been fine in mute. The flag was a good touch, but the dialogue was crap in capitals. Eli does not deserve forgiveness, he ordered his daughter to kill his son, then left the same daughter in Africa to die after he introduced her to a charming assassin who played with her heart like a football. Really 'Best Dad Ever' material. Ziva deserves closure but Eli does not deserve forgiveness.
Some of the insight about Ziva remaining sitting down etc, well, I blatantly plagiarized that from something ME Woffard said. So I don't even own that. Don't sue.
