So I've been on a big iCarly kick for awhile now. I'm kind of obsessed with Jerry Trainor/Spencer Shay. I've had an idea for an iCarly fanfiction bouncing around in my head for a little while so I thought I'd try and write it out and see where it went.
I just want to apologize in advance if the characters are a little (or a lot) out of character. Spencer is such a wild and crazy guy (please someone tell me you got that reference) that I just don't know if I can capture him well enough.
When Spencer first met her he was in a coffee shop. He was with his buddy Socko, discussing his next sculpture, a giant creation that included fully functional fans and a big lamp in the middle. He was gesturing wildly in the air and his hand connected with the waitress walking up to their table to refill their depleted coffee mugs. Almost in slow motion he watched the burning hot liquid arc over the table and straight into his lap. He let out a howl of pain and shouted a few choice curse words while Socko just laughed and the waitress scampered back into the kitchen to fetch a wet wash cloth and a bag of ice.
"I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry!" She kept repeating as she pressed the bag of ice onto his burnt bits without even thinking how intimate the gesture was. "I'm so sorry!"
"Its fine, my fault." Spencer said, his voice escaping through gritted teeth. "I should have been more careful."
The crowd that had gathered at the disturbance gradually faded until the drama was forgotten and it was just Socko, Spencer, and the waitress, still intent on nursing Spencer, at their table.
"Are you sure you're ok?" the woman asked, worry still deeply lined in her face.
Spencer nodded and shifted the ice in his lap. He was beginning to lose feeling and he figured that wasn't a good thing. Finally he looked up at the woman who had just been trying to give him an extra cup of coffee and the spit in his mouth dried up.
The woman was beautiful, in Spencer's eyes, the most beautiful girl in the world. Her blue eyes shown with worry and her lips were twisted into a grimace as she noticed the obvious pain written across his face. Her blonde hair, pulled back into a messy ponytail was pulling free of its hair tie and was hanging loosely in front of her face. Spencer mouthed wordlessly at her for a moment before her manager came over to make sure everything was ok.
"I am really sorry about that, sir." The man said, pushing the waitress behind him, hiding her from Spencer's view. It irritated him. "Here is a gift card for ten free coffees, our treat. Once again I'm really sorry about the coffee, if there is anything you need don't be afraid to ask."
The man, a big guy who looked like he spent all his time either working or eating chicken legs in front of a television, turned to the waitress still cowering behind him.
"Jennifer, to my office please."
The waitress sneaked a glance at Spencer, mouthed a 'sorry!', and followed her boss back behind the counter. Spencer watched her go, wishing he could chase after her, get her number, ask her out, talk to her more than just painful grunts and telling her it was his fault she spilt boiling hot coffee all over the family jewels.
Socko was still snickering when Spencer turned back to his coffee, now unappealing.
"Dude, you should have seen your face!" Socko exclaimed, making a face that, Spencer assumed, was close to the one he himself had made the minute the coffee had hit his lap.
"Yeah, great. I'm in pain and you're laughing at me." Spencer grumbled, shifting the ice in his lap again.
Socko laughed, unable to control it anymore. He laughed and laughed and laughed while Spencer sat brooding over his burnt bits and the waitress who had captured his attention. Finally, Socko got a hold of his sanity and looked Spencer over.
"Do you think you can stand?" he asked him.
Spencer shifted a little in his seat and decided he could at least stand, which was a good sign. They got up and paid for their coffee, Spencer's money was waved away by the manager who said it was "on the house".
"More like on me." Spencer said, the words slipping out before he could stop them.
The waitress, Jennifer, who had just appeared behind the counter with a mop and bucket in hand, giggled before slapping a hand to her mouth. The manager glared in her direction and then gestured over to the puddle of cooling coffee left over on the floor.
"Jennifer, go clean up that mess you made." He sneered before shooting a quick smile over at Spencer.
As Spencer and Socko walked to the front of the coffee shop, Spencer caught the waitress's eye once more. Once she had stopped her mopping he raised a hand in a silent good bye and after a moment of blinking surprise she too raised a hand. He smiled at her and followed Socko out the door not catching the smile that slowly spread across her own lips.
Spencer found himself at that coffee shop more and more over the next few weeks. Every day he would come, order the same coffee (regular, extra sugar, two creamers), and sit at the same table waiting for that waitress, Jennifer, to come around to check on him.
Everyday he went home empty handed.
Finally he got fed up with waiting for her to find him; he decided he'd find her. He got up from his table, threw away his empty coffee cup, and approached the counter. The zitty teenager waiting for him eyed him apprehensively, it was obviously one of his first days on the job.
"Hey, let me speak to your manager." Spencer said, getting down to business.
"Sure, may I ask why?"
Spencer just stared at him. "No."
The zitty teen nodded and went to fetch his boss. Finally the huge man squeezed through the door and greeted Spencer like an old friend.
"Well hello sir!" the man said, "Is there something I can help you with?"
Spencer nodded, "Yes, that woman who spilled coffee on me the other day is she still here?"
The boss shook his head, "No sir, she had had a number of accidents on the job recently and your accident was the last straw, I let her go a few days afterwards."
Spencer felt like bashing his head against the counter. He had missed her? He had subjected himself to the dive of a coffee shop thinking the woman of his dreams was still working there when she could already be across the globe, or the city at least.
"Do you know where I could find her?" Spencer asked as politely as he possibly could.
The big man exchanged looks with the zitty teenager, who looked like he was trying to blend in with the wall, and then he looked back at Spencer.
"Sir, I'm afraid that is classified information. I do not give away my employee's private information."
"Yeah, and I understand that but—!"
"Sir, I'm sure your intentions are entirely pure but I cannot give away that kind of information."
Spencer opened his mouth to argue but the look in the big man's eyes told him he wasn't going to get anywhere. He had his chance at getting Jennifer's number and he had missed out. He slunk back to his table and slumped down in his chair and doodled gloomy, bleak pictures on a napkin with a pen he had tucked in his shirt pocket. He wondered idly if he would ever see the waitress Jennifer ever again and decided it would be better to mope in his own home than in a coffee shop where he burned his bits and missed the girl of his dreams.
As he stood to go, he turned back to check the rest of the shop, like the woman might be hiding in the corner or peering out the back door waiting to be rescued. When all he saw was the big boss man glaring at him from behind the counter and the zity teenager wiping down the table nearby eyeing him as though he were going to take all the money in the cash register and make a run for it, he sighed and reached for the door.
And tumbled straight into the girl he had been looking for.
Leave a comment if you like or think that I should continue. Like I said above I've had this story idea bouncing around in my head for awhile and I hope I can get it all out before my inspiration dries up.
Carly, Sam, and Freddie will make appearences everynow and then (I mean Spencer does live with Carly and Sam and Freddie are her best friends) but this is going to be a more Spencer/Jennifer set fan fiction. And no, this is not the Jennifer who was mentioned in iHate Sam's Boyfriend she is my own character.
Thanks guys! Stay classy. :)
