The End of the Beginning
Eva sat on the hammock looking all around. She hadnt felt this calm and safe in a very long time. Clear blue sky and fluffy white clouds for as far as she could see. The bluey-green waters lapping the shore and against the protruding rocks. The sun was beating down on her pale bruised, burned and battered skin, it felt wonderful to her. The heat gently caressing her face and body, healing her scars. The physical evidence of months of torture . She had once, not so long ago, wondered if she would ever get to feel the sun on her face again. As her mind started to bring up memories of her ordeal, she quickly banished them away. Focus on the now. Things couldnt be more perfect. She relaxed back into the hammock, closed her eyes and smiled a contented smile. Everything that she considered herself to have lost forever, she had back. It felt like a miracle, a dream she hadnt yet woken up from. The man she had wanted for so long actually wanted her too. The dream job that she had worked so hard for, would be hers again, after a long break to rest and recouperate. Her partner in the force was now her partner in life. It wasnt until her abduction, that Hunter realised how deep his feelings were for Eva. His persuit to find her after she had been taken was phenomenal .He had pulled out all the stops, spent endless nights searching and investigating, gone without sleep and food, called in lots of favours from his collegues, even made deals with convicted criminals to get the information he needed to locate Eva and her captor.
It was all over with. And now here they were on this perfect holiday island far away from everything and everyone. It was bliss.
Hunter finished up his shower, patted himself dry with the beach towel, being extremely careful around his stab wound stitches. He then wrapped the towel around his waist. He glanced at the mirror, noticing how much older he looked, all the stress had aged him, there was no doubt about that. He poured Eva and himself a cocktail adding an umberella, a straw, lemon and lime slices and a pink elephant ice cube. Hunter placed a red rose between his teeth, put the drinks on a tray and took them outside to Eva. She opened her eyes and gasped in wonderment at the sight of the man of her dreams, stood in front of her wearing nothing but a beach towel. His sharply-shaped shoulders, chiseled chest, biceps and abs, his honed hips, handsome face and lushcious lips. He was perfect. Eva had never experienced such intense feelings of love for another. This is it, my happy ever after, she thought to herself. Hunter put down the tray, passed her the rose and kissed her gently on her hand. Eva stood up and threw her arms around his neck, pulling him closer. They tenderly kissed for what seemed like an eternity. They were as one. From this moment in time nothing else mattered. After everything they had been through, all the suffering just melted away. They were going to be okay.
