Sunrise

None of his mornings had ever started out quite like this one.

Never had he felt such contentment and placidity as he did now.

She woke him up complaining of sharp, frequent pains and told him it was time. They'd practiced the night many times this month, but he'd momentarily forgotten what they had prcticed for all his urgency and nervousness.

Eric sighed as he held his newborn baby girl in his arms for the first time after waiting all these months. He cradled her gently and kissed her nose as she slept peacefully, tucked in a tight soft pink blanket and her head covered with a little pink striped hat. Such a little gorgeous little girl... his daughter. Calleigh's daughter. Their daughter.

He turned slowly and watched as Calleigh got her much needed rest. He took in her features. He could still see the slight glistening of sweat covering her face from giving birth, her womb slowly began to deflate from the emptiness. She was still the most beautiful woman in the world to him.

The labour had been long and painful for Calleigh; twelve hours and it took another two of pushing to get the baby out. Jaimie Louise Delko came into this world changing his life for good.

"Hey baby girl" he whispered as Jaimie opened her eyes. She had her mothers sea green eyes. "I'm your daddy"

Jaimie yawned and continued to stare at him, Eric just smiled down at his little girl.

Calleigh woke up slowly. She sighed and looked over to Eric. She smiled slightly when she saw him doting over his baby girl. It warmed her heart to see him so happy and the fact that she made him happy made her feel beautiful and full of purpose.

Eric smoothed down Jaimie's silky blonde hair, looking out the window. He knew what was out there in that big world, things that no-one should know of or live with for that matter. He looked down at his sleeping child and vowed to protect her from all the evils that would come her way.

He sealed his vow with a kiss to her cheek and the tightening of the blanket.

He watched as the sun peeked over the horizon and when the rays reached him and Jaimie, suddenly he thought, as he looked down at his sweet baby, everything right now as he knew it, was perfect.
