Chapter 1
Rowena Ravenclaw stood, her pale forehead pressed against the soothing surface of the stain glass window. She still refused to sit even though somewhere, deep down, she knew it was almost over. Helga admired her for that.
"Rowena, I -"
"Don't even start," the older woman dismissed her with a smile, but couldn't seem to keep the tremor from her voice.
"But I -"
"Helga, you need to go and help the others. I am beyond help. By the time morning reaches the earth I shall be gone, but you and Godric will still be here. You need to think about the future, do not dwell on the past, or dreams of what could have been. It's over for me. Not for you."
Tears glistened in Helga's hazel eyes, "Go," the one word was enough to send the young Huflepuff sobbing.
Ravenclaw turned to her friend and for once wrinkles were visible at the corners of her once sharp and focused eyes, "Go."
Helga knew to do as her friend said, there were many reasons for that. One, Ravenclaw always knew what was best. Two, she had never openly lied about what she thought was best. Three, Ravenclaw was usually never wrong. And lastly, Helga didn't exactly feel like being the last person Rowena sent one of her world famous jinxes at. Huflepuff threw her arms around the dying Raven. One last squeeze and Helga was gone.
Ravenclaw collapsed on the stone window seat, breaking out in a cold sweat as a race of spasms worked their way up her spine.
She knew what she had to do. No regrets, no "what-could-have-been"s. She had to remember. Remember everything and never forget, ever. A single inky tear flowed from the raven's dark right eye. Now was the time to relive all of her memories, to live her life one final time. No regrets.
