Mikan looked at the ground, she didn't pay attention in class, this was normal. What was weird was she didn't bother Hotaru or Ruca-pyon. That was weird. She walked from class to class sighing every five seconds. Lately, Natsume wasn't in school. People whispered as they watched her down the hallways. Then it hit her. Literally.
"You look 30 less graceful like that." Hotaru said taking out her deer and horse hoof.
"Hotaru is right, Mikan. You should cheer up." Ruka-pyon smiled.
"You know what! Your right! I'll cheer up as soon as possible!" Mikan smiled and said, "Thank you Ruka-pyon and Hotaru!" She jumped on Hotaru but ended up getting hit by the deer hoof.
"Don't touch me. You look sweaty."
Days passed, and then exactly a week after, Natsume came back. Mikan still didn't cheer up. Natsume noticed that too. He looked after her from a distance and tried not to be noticed. He tried to bother her. Even that didn't work. He finally gave up and asked Hotaru, "Hey."
Hotaru looked up and said, "What?"
"Did something happen to Mikan?"
"Why are you asking?"
"I-I was just wondering."
"It was her birthday a day before last week."
Natsume pretended not to be surprised and walked off. He told Mikan to meet him near the Northern Forest.
After school, Mikan went exactly to the location he told her to. She saw him there and ran up to him.
"Close your eyes." He told her.
"Why?"
"Just do it."
Then…
He.
Kissed.
Her.
Surprised she moved back into a tree.
"Happy Belated Birthday, strawberry print." He smirked.
Mikan looked stunned for a moment. Then her lips moved into a big smile, while blushing, she hugged him and said, "Thank you, Natsume!"
