gideon&marlene
notes: for amy (You're Amyzing) because it feels so good to know that i am not the only one that ships these two together. and also because she's beyond amazing. i'm sorry it's so short, but i hope you like it anyway. :)
warnings: no capitalization and i am aware, so please do not comment on it.
summary: he smiles. she smiles. and she believes him. / gideon&marlene, because sometimes the tragedies are the best ones / for amy.
she holds the photograph in her hands, rocking back and forth like a child who can't sit still. she's sobbing.
"promises you'll never leave me," she says softly. he sits up and kisses her.
"wouldn't dream of it, marls," he replies.
and she can't help but think, you lied.
/
the first time he asks her out, she throws her drink in his face. he laughs, as if he's won something, while she glares at him with her blue eyes.
and that's when she decides she hates him.
/
they're lying on the ground, heads and hands nearly touching. they're looking at the stars, but every now and then one of them would steal a glance at the other. there's a certain kind of calmness between them, but there's also butterflies in her stomach that continues to bounce no matter how many times she wishes for them to stop. it's a new sensation for her.
but she thinks she likes it.
/
"marlene, why won't you just say yes?" he asks her after he just asks her out again.
"because i don't want to go on a date with you, gideon. can't you just accept that?"
he shrugs. "'fraid not."
"and why would that be?"
he takes a step closer. "there's just...something about you, marlene." he takes another step closer, making so that there is less than an inch apart from them. "i can't put my finger on it. there just...is."
and then he kisses her.
and she kisses back.
/
sometimes, she wishes that he would have kissed her sooner. that way, they would have had more time together. could have done more things. seen more things. had more time to spend together.
but she knows, deep down, that she wouldn't change their story even if she could.
/
they're on the couch in their flat, his head in her lap. she's quietly singing a muggle song about love and he's listening, eyes closed, as she combs her fingers through his hair absentmindedly.
"promises you'll never leave me," she says softly. he sits up and kisses her.
"wouldn't dream of it, marls," he replies.
he smiles. she smiles.
and she believes him.
/
"i love you, marlene, and don't you forget it."
it's probably the fifth time he's said it that day, but she smiles anyway, a spark in her eyes.
"never."
/
when the death eaters come for her three months later, three painful and lonely months later, she welcomes them.
she isn't afraid of death.
at least, not anymore.
