Author's Notes :Well, here it is. The XS fan fiction you haven't been waiting for. I've had this idea for a while, but it has taken me a long time to finally get the story out. Now, for my senseless ramblings. There will most likely be two main story arcs: Past and Present (No future, sorry). Each will almost be its own separate story. Another note: Litari is my own original character. If she's similar to one of your own characters and you think I stole her, the only thing I can say is, great minds think alike!
About ratings: This chapter is rated K, but there's some pretty intense violence later on that might warrant a T rating. Not soon. But in time.
Please take the time to review after reading. I always enjoy feedback. Now, without further ado, I present the first chapter ofBalancing Act.
-----
Chase Young sat meditating in the rain, not minding the streams of water that drenched his clothing and left his hair soggy and limp. The other two Xiaolin apprentices were inside the temple, no doubt arguing about something. Unlike Chase, Guan and Dashi did not wish to hang around outside in the middle of a thunderstorm.
For Chase, the rain was calming, a tool to help him relax and focus. At least, he was focused, until a high pitched voice called out from the northeast corner of the temple gardens.
"Please, Master. I can assure you that I would work as hard as I can, if you would only-"
"I am sorry, but there is nothing I can do for you. My job is to train the Xiaolin Dragons, and the Xiaolin Dragons alone."
Chase had not recognized the first voice, but the second person speaking was obviously Master Chen. Now interested in hearing this strange argument, Chase leaped from his spot in the gardens and stealthily took off towards the source of the noise.

Dashi and Guan had, in fact, been arguing over which of Dashi's Shen Gong Wu was the most powerful, but their debate was cut short when Guan noticed Chase speeding past the temple. He stood up and peeked around the door frame to see where Chase was going, but the younger monk was already gone.
"Where do you think Chase is going in such a hurry?" he asked.
Dashi reluctantly stood up and joined Guan by the entrance. "There's only one way to find out."
"You mean, follow him?" Being the Dragon of Fire, Guan loathed going out into the rain without a pretty good reason.
Dashi nodded. "It sure beats sitting here arguing about how the Sword of the Storm is best."
"Not a chance! The Sword of the Storm would never beat the Star Hanabi! Not in a million years..."
So the argument continued as the two friends raced, laughing, into the rain to find Chase Young.
So, here's my extremely short first chapter. I would have liked it to be longer, but it's mostly setting up for what comes next. Chapter 2 coming soon!
Don't forget to review. ;)
