Drabble. Humour. Set anytime you'd like.
"Dean, you are acting like an evil bumblebee."
Both the brother's froze as Castiel threw out the statement as if he was insulting Dean on the highest level possible. They'd been arguing over a case and tempers were running high.
"Wait, what did you call me?" Dean asked, confused.
Castiel set his jaw as though he was doing something difficult. "It was necessary Dean, I do not wish to offend you. But that is what you are acting like."
Sam blinked in confusion. "A bumblebee?"
Castiel nodded solemnly. "One that is evil."
He paused and the added, "which stings."
There was a pause, long and awkward.
"What?" Dean asked again.
Castiel's previously stern and remonstrative attitude faltered and confusion entered his face.
"Was my reproach too strong?"
Both Sam and Dean had by then completely forgotten what they'd been arguing about.
"Ummm, I'm not sure it was even in the ball park of a reproach." Sam intoned, an amused smiles starting to grow as he realized what Cas had tried to do.
Cas looked perturbed.
"It was hateful?"
The brothers stared for a moment.
"Cas, that wasn't even insulting, maybe in the way that bumblebees are fuzzy and cute."
Cas looked disbelieving. "Bumblebees are very dangerous."
Both of the Winchesters recalled the event wherein Cas had appeared naked on top of the car covered in bees. Apparently the angel still remembered the event despite his craziness at the time.
"Where did you pick up an insult like that?"
"Ms. Laverne Baker expressed the sentiment which one can infer from that bumblebees are very heinous creatures."
Dean just looked perplexed, Sam however seemed to be thinking, the name was familiar.
"Wait, Laverne Baker? The soul singer? What were you doing listening to her?"
Dean recoiled, "Soul music?"
Cas nodded his head. "Yes, I was working on learning the human culture."
There was silence. Sam was looking on with a smile on his face while Dean just looked disturbed.
"I have the best tapes in the world, best friggin' music and you listen to Laverne Baker?"
Dean tossed his hands in the air, mumbling something under his breath about 'stupid angels' and 'friggin' bumblebees'.
