Introduction

I sat easily upon Aramis' back, the ivory spine all I had to hang on to. His wings tucked, he soared through the sky with amazing speed and grace. He was a magnificent creature, but fiercely terrorizing all the same. I placed my hand on his warm neck, reveling in the heat and easy calm that settled over his mind. Smiling, I leaned closer to his neck and sighed, We should return. We have been gone much too long.

Aramis slowed his speed and hummed in response. He opened his wings and let a draft carry him down to the ground. Glaedr came from nowhere, and fell into the same draft, slowly descending with us. With a thud, and then another, both dragons landed and stood before Oromis.

I dismounted and bowed, greeting my Master properly before storming him with my furious questions. "Why, if I may ask, do you and Mother insist on keeping me hidden?" With an angry huff, I whirled on again. "I was right under Eragon's nose! I watched him train, and the fool didn't even notice me nor Aramis."

Oromis allowed me to ramble on, smiling at the dragon named after him to ensure his memory. A great honor it was, to name the hatchling nearly twenty years ago. He turned and looked at me, his confident demure never leaving. "It is time. We have kept too many secrets from Eragon, and lest, you. It is time the two of you fight side by side. No longer is it fair to test his power or, force him on his own way."

"Your mother has tried her best to keep him good company, but he cannot find himself. Saphira is lonely as is her Rider. You must learn with Eragon for now. He will be your partner to take down the Empire. Go to him, help him through the madness he faces, and allow your mother to return home. It is time for Arya to stop playing games and rule as she should."

"Go, and do not return until you are with Eragon, and ready to complete your training."

With a cough, I was dismissed, and Glaedr approached me. His golden eyes peered down on me, his intelligence looming over me as if I were nothing but a hatchling. Take care, Rider. I wish you the best of luck. Are you ready? With a hum, Glaedr touched my brow, the array of emerald tattoos along my spine and neck glowed, and then diminished.

Aramis' roar dominated the air, his powerful voice ringing across the land. His cry was that of a warning, daring someone to challenge him. He released his fiery breath, the green flames licking the air. I swung up into the saddle, sword tight at my hip. With a cry, we leapt into the air, and flew towards our destiny.
