MM: Hey guys! I love Clarisse, so I wanted to do a little oneshot about her and Chris. HERE WE GO!
Clarisse: Can it not be mushy? Please
Chris: Please? You'll be brutally murdered if it is.
MM: … OMG Chris, do you have a crush on me? YOU ARE SO DISTURBING!
Clarisse: No, he's just trying to convince you.
MM: Oh, okay.
She was a nobody. No one knew her, no one called out her name when she passed. She had no friends. She was abused. She was attacked almost every day, and her mother blamed her for it. When she found out that she was a demi-god, she was elated. She was finally somebody! But life continued on, and still no one knew her name, who she was. She wanted, desperately, to be somebody.
So, she made herself somebody.
She created a mask. She hid herself behind a ruthless bully, (though she was but a seven year old) and made sure that her true self never slipped through. But, she wasn't happy.
The world had trod all over her as if she was but a doormat. She had been bullied, therefore, she wanted to bully others. She was abused, so she abused people with words. No one had ever stood up to her, until, of course, the lightning thief came.
When she saw him, she felt almost sorry for him. He was scrawny, with black hair and green eyes, and the sad, desperate look that she recognized all to well. He had lost his mother, and from the looks of it, he had been abused. He reminded her all to much of herself, enough that she didn't want to hurt him.
But she did. And made a new name for herself. The girl who gargled with toilet water. This time, all she felt was rage. How dare he destroy every trace of dignity she had gathered! But she saw sympathy in his eyes, and she backed off.
The next year, she got a quest.
At first it went well, but I couldn't help remembering the lines of the prophecy:
You shall sail the iron ship with warriors of bone,
You shall find what you seek and make it your own,
But despair for your life entombed within stone,
And fail without friends, to fly home alone.
When the lightning thief and his friends showed up, she was relieved, but also upset. This was her quest! When her father appeared and started yelling at her, it made things even worse. But she learned something on that quest. That sometimes people need friends to make it out alive. That it was partly her fault that she had never had any. And when she returned, she was a hero. And even the ones who actually found the fleece cheered for her.
And then she met the love of her life. He was handsome, with his impish, yet somehow caring grin, and his sparkling brown eyes filled with mischief. He smiled at everyone, but he never really showed that he cared for her. Until the day he admitted it.
The next day, he was gone.
He was recruited into Kronos' army. And she felt horrible, like something inside her was ripping apart. But kept her cool, and her mask, and pretended she didn't care.
And than she found him. He was outside her house, babbling like an idiot, with a mad gleam in his once sparkling eyes. She took him too Camp, and tried to nurse him back to health. But nothing helped. And so, for the first time, she cried. When he recovered, they were a couple, always watching each others backs, and occasionally throttling each other. And she truly, for the first time, felt happy.
MM: That ended up longer, worse, and more angsty than I thought it would.
Clarisse: I AM GOING TO KILL YOU! *starts strangling author*
Chris: Here we go again… *sighs*
MM: Bye…Ulp…For….*wheezes*….Now…. *faints*
Percy: Oh great, now I have to take her the hospital.
