Requiem for a Pirate

With the wind buffeting their faces, they watched as the Pearl's dark silhouette was hauled into the depths. They watched as a ship went down astride its captain. They watched as crooked grins and debates over rum and ill-conceived voyages were engulfed by the churning waters. They watched as misadventures and misunderstandings and mischief and miscalculations were swept away by the foaming tide. They watched as death finally claimed (A coward? A good man? A pirate? A gentleman of fortune?).
They watched, with heavy hearts and mixed emotions and farewells on their lips, as at last fate caught up with Captain Jack.
