He was about to walk away, not in anger but in frustration, frustration over something as simple as a picture. But then he heard her voice and it beckoned him to come back. She spoke directly to him, literally. Every day, every update she had made, she had been talking to him. He hadn't just been thrown away and forgotten like yesterday's news.

Compelled by her voice, he had stayed, and he had listened. Fascinated and horrified. The video she had made when she was tired and dehydrated had had him in tears. Had he not had her safe right here and right now in another room at the base, it would have felt like a goodbye. The way she talked about what had been, how they met, and what could have been, a possible future.

She had been scared and all alone for a very long time on that damned planet. The last time she had been this scared he had been right there besides her, trapped under water, being equally scared. Being on the brink of dead was no joking matter. And this time she had had no support in that moment. And although her speech had been slurred and her mind had jumped between and jumbled up the subjects, her overall message to him had been clear. She would always be with him, no matter what.

And he had known for quite some time that all he wanted was to always be with her. However the world had continuously conspired against them, their timing never entirely right. Though they had gone from beating around the bush to become more clear and explicit about their feelings for one another they weren't exactly there yet. Too many obstacles still loomed over them and threatened to come between them.

So for now they settled for watching the sunrise together, just being content being close, being together, and being in each other's presence again.
