William is a very curious child, indeed.
"Say, NiGHTS." William said, turning to face the Nightmaren. "We're friends, are we not?" NiGHTS turned to face William as well, " Of course we are, Will! Why even ask a silly question such as that?" The Nightmaren asked. Will blushed, looking down he said, "W-well, it's just that I wanted to ask you something." NiGHTS smiled, "Alright, ask away!" Will noted, "Right. So, don't take this the wrong way, NiGHTS, but I was, umm, curious about something." "Yes?" NiGHTS said, a little eager to answer Will's question. " Are you...male or female?" asked Will, hesitantly.
"Um, what's a 'male' and 'female'?" NiGHTS asked. Will blinked, a little surprised to be asked such a question. "Um, well, you know i'm a boy. Right?" NiGHTS noted. "And Helen is a girl." Again, NiGHTS noted. "So, witch one are you, boy or girl?" NiGHTS thought about it for a second before answering, "Nightmaren." Will shook his head. "No, that's not what I mean. You are a Nightmaren, but what is your gender." Will tried. "Gender. Gender, gender, gender." NiGHTS repeated a few times testing out the new word.
"What's a 'gender', Will?" NiGHTS asked, lost again. Will smiled, " You know what, NiGHTS, forget it. It's not important." Will said, dropping the subject. "Wha!" NiGHTS shouted, " C'mon Will! That's unfair. Get me all curious just to leave me hanging?" Will shook his head again. "No, NiGHTS. it's okay. You're you, and that's all that matters." NiGHTS stared at William, more confused now than when the conversation had started. NiGHTS sighed, "My apologies, Will. I'm afraid I don't understand." "It's okay. You're you, and that's all you need to be."
more confused than ever, NiGHTS simply offered a smile before answering, "Whatever you say, Will."
