Shuuichi Minamino tossed and turned. His breathing and heart rate increased. Every night, he had the same dream. He suddenly jolted up, being awoken from sleep. The window next to his bed was open and the curtains blew softly in the quiet, night breeze. He sighed in relief and placed his hand gently over his forehead. He was lightly sweating.
"That dream again," he breathed. "Something's not right…but what?"
Shuuichi was actually the century-old fox demon, Yoko Kurama, reborn as a human child. The cruel and ruthless demon had decided to stay in this world because of his kind human mother, who was none-the-wiser, after Kurama had been injured. Surprised at this, Kurama had even been willing to give his life for her. Somehow, he had fallen in love with her, and continued to pretend to be her son.
In his senior year of High School now, he had begun to work with at his stepfather's company. But lately, something had been occupying his mind and body. He was always tired. Even after naps and nightly sleep routines. He didn't understand, in all his thousand years' worth of wisdom, why this was happening. He even had to dodge spectators in-between random transformations.
After the Demon World Tournament, when he had chosen his human side, Shuuichi over his demon side, Yoko, he had told Yomi that you never leave anything behind. Perhaps this was one of those times?
He sighed again and decided to finally visit a certain someone in the morning. He pulled the covers over his torso as he lay down again. He gently, slowly closed his eyes and fell asleep, this time for the night.
