Wicked Whims

Author's Note: I decided to grant one of my reader's request for a darker female Sasuke x Naruto story. In this story, Sasuke was born female and her name is Suki. I'm hoping to portray a darker Suki in this story. This story is going to veer heavily away from the canon ending for the sake of the plot. If any of that bothers you, you might want to turn back now. For those of you still here, I hope you enjoy this story and reviews are always appreciated.

IMPORTANT STORY NOTATION: Warning as I said this will be a DARK Suki x Naruto tale. Suki is going to be flirting with insanity for at least part of this fic. She may or may not get redeemed later, but this story definitely isn't going to have a fluffy beginning.

Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto or make any profit from my fanfics.

Chapter 1

"Why didn't you kill him?" Madara arches an eyebrow.

Suki Uchiha frowns at the question. It was one she had been anticipating, but now was the moment of truth. She had to persuade her ancestor to spare Naruto's life.

"At first, it was a whim. In some ways, he is to me what Hashirama is to you." She was fully aware such reasoning could backfire on her, but Suki knew it was her best chance. "Naruto has the potential to change the world. He's powerful, but his soft heart leaves him weak. It is because of that the ninja world rallied around him in the eleventh hour, though. We can use that to our advantage."

Naruto was also laying unconscious in a hospital bed. Madara had given her a great boon by freeing Tsunade and Sakura from the jutsu long enough to heal the worst of the damage, but even the lovable idiot wouldn't be able to bounce back from his wounds so quickly.

His body needed time to heal. The Nine Tails would ensure that Naruto didn't die. Just as long as Madara didn't decide to swat him like a bug during his recovery.

"As long as this boy breathes, he is a symbol of hope to the Allied Forces. Tell me why the benefit of keeping him alive outweighs that risk?" Madara's Rinnegan whirls.

Suki Uchiha was under no illusions. Currently, there was no foreseeable way that she could defeat Madara Uchiha on her own. Not that it mattered. Suki didn't feel any desire to kill him.

He was family. Madara and her were separated by several generations, but still blood was blood. He was also immensely powerful and intelligent. The elder Uchiha could keep their family safe and fortunately for Suki, outside the battlefield…it was an easy matter for her to manipulate him.

After all, she was his reincarnation. Their wills were largely the same. The very same things that drove her forward would likely compel Madara just as strongly or so her theory went.

"As you said, he's a symbol of hope." She snorts. "People want to believe in a fairy tale. That heroes will always save them. We'll simply pretend that we fought against you and Naruto made you 'see the light.' If the people believe that it will be a simple matter to control things from the shadows."

Skepticism radiates from Madara as if it were a Chidori she had channeled. "An intriguing notion, but how can we be sure the Nine Tails won't attempt to do something stupid?"

That was a good question. Naruto could be a lovable idiot of a martyr at times. Though Suki wasn't entirely certain if he qualified as a martyr. He had a childish belief that good would always win in the end.

"For several reasons. The first is we are giving him what he wants. An end to the war and peace." Suki tilts her head as she considers that one on the merits. There was a chance that alone might be compelling enough to Naruto. "The second is Naruto loves to 'fix people.' Time and time again, he has tried to turn enemies into friends." With an alarming amount of success. "Third, he knows if he chooses to fight us…innocent people will get hurt in the crossfire." Though that really tied back to the first reason. "Fourth, I'm his 'friend.'"

The word tastes bitter on her tongue as does the memory.

"Why are you so obsessed with me? Can't you see that I've severed our bond?" Suki had reached her limit.

No matter how far she traveled, how many times she told him that she wanted nothing to do with him or that village, Naruto always found her. Years had passed and he still persisted. There had to be a reason.

"Because you're my friend! I'd make a pretty rotten Hokage if I couldn't even save those who were most precious to me. Suki, come back to the Leaf Village. We'll find Itachi. You don't need to go with that freak."

She could still recall the feeling the intensity of a million Amaterasus. The word friend piercing through her chest with a viciousness that made her Chidori Sharp Sword look like child's play.

"I believe there is merit to your approach. Hashirama was the same way, believing friendship was enough to solve every problem." Madara scoffs, irritation and fondness peppering his words in equal measure. "They both live in a fantasy world, but it is up to people such as ourselves to do what needs to be done. As for the Nine Tails, I'll let you try things your way. If he proves uncooperative, we can always kill him later."

"Of course." It was nothing short of miracle, but Suki manages not to wince at her ancestor's last proposal. She wouldn't bat an eyelash at killing anyone who stood in the way of her goals, except for Naruto.

She'd just have to make him see the reality of the situation. Itachi and Naruto both loved the Leaf Village and were willing to die for it, but she willing to kill to protect them and their ideals.

"By the way, where did Obito run off to?" Madara glances around the hospital ward. "He was here just a few moments ago."

"He's likely with Kakashi. Apparently, they were teammates." Suki shrugs. Kakashi was one of a handful of people she'd feel marginally guilty about killing if it came down to it. In his own way, he had tried his best to assist her. He'd even gone so far as to teach her his trademark technique and yet, he simply didn't understand her motivations.

Revenge had been what she wanted. Not to get stronger so she could protect a village that didn't give a damn about her or her family until it suited their purposes.

The Leaf was fortunate that Itachi's dedication was perhaps even deeper than her hatred of the village that had cost her everything. That was why it was going to remain standing. Only this time, her Clan would thrive. She would make sure of it.

The sun was just beginning to set outside the window when Naruto finally manages to open his eyes. His entire body was in agony, but that makes him smile. Pain could mean only one thing.

That he was alive.

"You're awake." A familiar voice prompts him to sit up and promptly wish he hadn't.

If he had been in tormented by his injuries before, that was nothing compared to the sheer misery sitting up had caused. It didn't matter, though. He knew that voice.

"Suki?" It had to be her.

A figure steps out of the shadows, proving him right. "Idiot, you shouldn't be moving. Even with Tsunade's and Sakura's efforts, the Nine Tails can only do so much."

Tsunade and Sakura had healed him. He was in some kind of hospital and Suki was here. Naruto finds himself grinning. "Got it. I'll be more careful. We did it, Suki! We won!"

Suki shakes her head and pokes his forehead. "I suppose you could say that in a way as long as you aren't an idiot about this. You're alive and if you do what we say, you'll stay that way."

Naruto stares in horror at his childhood rival as the full implication of Suki's words sunk in. "We lost. You…gave up? Suki, we can still win."

A smirk forms on her face. It felt as though a Chidori was tearing through his stomach. "I didn't gave up. I just joined the winning team and I'm giving you the chance to do to the same. I'll even let you be Hokage as long as you do exactly what we tell you to do."

They lost.

They lost and Madara won. Somehow he'd even convinced Suki to join him and now, his best friend wanted Naruto to become a puppet Hokage?

"Suki, you can't be serious. You're not actually going to go along with what that crazy bastard wants. Are you? What about the Leaf? What about Itachi's final wish?" Naruto frowns. Was Suki under some kind of Genjutsu? Maybe she was stalling for time.

Suki raises an eyebrow. "Naruto, do you remember when we first joined Team Seven? Do you remember how Kakashi asked us to introduce ourselves? Do you remember what my goals were?"

Naruto nods slowly. He didn't see what that had to do with anything, but he remembered just like it was yesterday. "You wanted to kill Itachi and restore your Clan." He winces as soon as the words leave his mouth, guilt welling up instead his stomach like a rainstorm about to be unleashed. "I know that things didn't go how you thought they would with Itachi. I'm sorry about it. He deserved better, but what does that have to do with teaming up with Madara?"

It didn't make any sense. Itachi would have fought against Madara.

"You're right. He did deserve better. So did my entire family and that includes Madara and Obito. They're alive Naruto. Not what I expected, but still my family. I have the chance to restore my Clan now and honor Itachi's wish. I'm going to keep the Leaf safe, but I'm doing it my way as a Shadow Hokage. You can wear the robes and hat, give the speeches, and inspire the people. I never cared about any of that. I'm going to make sure that this village doesn't take anymore of my family from me. I'm not going to allow this village to sacrifice anymore people like they did my brother ever again."

The savagery in Suki's voice was as cruel as any that Madara had ever pulled off. Worse. Naruto expected his enemies to insult the Leaf Village, but Suki was Suki. She was his friend.

"You really think they're going to fall for it? That no one will notice what's really going on? How are you going to install me as Hokage anyway? You have no authority." He had to try to reason with her.

Madara had just gotten inside her head. Just like Orochimaru had. It was infuriating. Despite how strong she was, people kept preying on Suki's grief.

"I know they're going to fall for it. They did nothing as tensions mounted between my Clan and them. They never questioned why Itachi butchered his family. They treated you like a pariah for having the Nine Tails while telling their children nothing. Of course, that was until it suited them. Once you saved them, you were their hero." Her eyes narrow. Fury dances in one lavender irises and in another ruby red one. "They'd turn on you just as quickly given half the chance and I think deep down, you know that."

Naruto growls, desperately trying to summon the Rasengan. "Fine. If you don't want to listen, I'll just beat some sense into you! You were right. Skilled ninjas can tell what the other ninja is thinking just by how they fight."

Suki smacks her fist into Naruto's shoulder, forcing him to lay down. "I told you to rest. You don't have the energy to fight me. Stop being stupid or you're going to get yourself killed. I spared you yet again on a whim, Naruto. Don't test my patience."

Naruto winces as laughter overtakes him. "You can talk until you're blue in the face. I know the real Suki is still in there or else, you would have just killed me while I was unconscious. Instead, you're worried about me hurting myself more."

An eerie silence falls over the room.

After what seemed like an eternity, Suki's voice pierces through it like a kunai. "I don't think you're taking me seriously. Madara, you can bring him in now."

The door opens and Madara leads a chained Raikage inside. He smirks, standing man in front of the bed.

Naruto watches helplessly as Suki pulls out a kunai and holds it to his throat. "Naruto, we can do this the easy way or the hard way. This story will have the same ending either way. You can be a good puppet Hokage and make this as painless a transition as possible or you can watch as all those who oppose us suffer. It's your choice." Dragging it along his throat just hard enough to cause a thin line of blood to well. "Either way, I will honor Itachi's final wish. I will protect this village, but I'm also never going to allow it to rob me of my family again."
