When Everything Goes Black

Rei sighed again, scratching his temple with the eraser end of his pencil before releasing his grip on it and letting it fall to the blanket as he reread his essay again. Or what he had of it...

"You just shut up," Rei growled lowly as he retrieved his pencil, his eyes never leaving the nearly blank page of the paper, to a certain friend who wanted so badly to snicker at the frustrated teen beside him. "You're so lucky you don't need the extra credit..."

"Well maybe someone should pay a little more attention in English class rather than letting their eyes wander..." Kai suggested with a smirk as he scooted closer to Rei, beginning to read what was written thus far.

"I do not let my eyes wander! I just can't pay attention to a person with a monotonous voice! I'll fall asleep!" he retorted as he harshly erased a few words to cover up his embarrassment.

"So staring in my general direction keeps you awake then?" he drawled as he pointed at a spelling error on the page.

"You wish I was staring in your general direction," he huffed as he erased again and fixed the error.

"What's this essay supposed to be about anyway?" the bluenette inquired as he rolled onto his back, his head tilted to face Rei.

"Where you want to be if the world were going to end tomorrow?"

"And you can't come up with something to fill half a page?" Kai teased at the general topic.

"Didn't I tell you to shut up?" Rei hissed teasingly as he stabbed Kai's shoulder with his eraser. "If it had been 'if the world were ending years from now', then I'd have more to write about because by then I'd hopefully be married or at least with someone I love, have a job...You see? I'd have time to plan out where I am and what I'd be doing when everything goes black."

"Just come up with something already so we can play video games or go for a walk or something other than laying here!" Kai whined.

"You think it's so easy to come up with this don't you? Well, let's hear where you want to be!" the raven haired teen challenged as he dropped his pencil to his paper, propping himself up fully on his elbows as he looked to Kai.

"I'd want to be right here," he smirked as he pushed a finger into the bed.

"I know my bed's comfy and all, but seriously, where would you be?"

"And I told you, right here."

"Why?" he asked with a blank stare.

Kai laughed a bit as he began to elaborate. "I'd want to be here next to the person I care about most."

Rei's mouth fell open slightly as a flush heated his entire face.

"I told you it wasn't hard," Kai laughed as he tugged at Rei's arm, scooting himself around so that he was laying face to face, perpendicular, to Rei.

The essay lay forgotten on the floor as Kai effectively tossed it aside to make room for a more comfortable cushion for his head as his other hand looped around Rei's neck and tangled in his raven locks, pulling his head down to his all in one swift motion.

And Rei couldn't think of anywhere he'd rather be than right here, on the comfy bed, kissing the person he cared about most when everything goes black.
