Just so you know, the name of the chapters are important. n.n Sorry I was gone so long... I forgot my password... But that didn't keep me from writing! I'm going to give you everything I have!

This book is dedicated to Abbie- the kindest person I've ever met

"Nova!" I called out to the white lion, the one the poachers had just caught in one of their nets. The head poacher loaded his gun and took his aim, right at her head. "Don't you dare! Nova! Nova!" I called, struggling to get away from my parents. I took out my pocket knife, cut my leg, and quickly put it back away. I let out a cry, hoping they'd let me go.

"Honey," Dad said, looking at Mom, "She's bleeding." My mom nodded, setting me on the ground. I sat there for a second before jumping up, just barely avoiding my parents grasp. I jumped in front of the net, blocking the poacher's target.

"Don't sho-" Bang! The gun went off. I looked down at my bloodied shirt in horror. I had been shot. Nova has to be safe before I can die, I thought to myself. I pulled out my pocket knife, adrenaline pumping through my veins. I cut her down, falling to the ground as she did. "Go, Nova. Run," I said, barely making the words out. The last thing I remember was seeing Nova running, free from the poachers, before I let the darkeness claim my vision.

I gasped for air as I awoke. I looked at my surroundings. I was in the forest, not a hospital. "Good! You woke up! I thought you never would!" The lion in front of me said.

"Nova? Is that you?"

"Yes," She said, happily.

"Good. I didn't want to get eaten," I said. Thankfully, I caught on. "Wait, did you just talk?"

The lion looked at me, confusion in her eyes, "Can you understand me?" I gasped, nodding my head in answer to Nova's question. Her eyes widened, completely in shock of my new found power. "That is so cool! Now we can actually talk!"

I looked at her knowingly, "I died, didn't I?"

She looked at me, tears in her eyes, "Yes, but you came back!"

"As a spirit?"

"Yeah... but look at the bright side, you can understand me!"

"Bright side? Nova, I've wanted this since I was little!"

"What? Why?"

"So I could become a Guardian and protect all the children of the world!"

"Well, if I were a Guardian, and saw this girl talking to a lion, I'd think she's crazy."

"Well, if I were a Guardian, I wouldn't want someone crazy to be one."

"Then it's settled; we either stop talking or you act like you don't know what I'm saying."

"Stop talking," I said, seeing the Northern Lights, "Today might be my lucky day!"

"Okay." And we sat there in silence until a certain someone showed up.
