A/N: During Gwen's video message from home, I noticed that it was only her mom and her little brother. This is a fic about her missing dad…
Another Father's Day is passing and her dad is nowhere to be found.
He had left them when Gwen was about eight years old and her mom was eight months pregnant with her little brother. Her mom and dad had gotten into a huge argument on the day that he left.
"How come these bills haven't been paid?" Her mom had asked her dad, slamming an envelope on the kitchen counter.
"Soon," Her father sighed and ran his hand through his black hair.
"I can't work because I'm pregnant," Gwen's mom said. "If we don't pay these bills soon, the electricity and water will be cut off and we'll be miserable!"
"Will you calm down?" Her father asked. "I'll pay the bills when I get to it."
"Calm down?" Her mom laughed spitefully. "The electricity and water will be gone soon and I'm eight months pregnant! When are you going to start taking some responsibility?"
"I'll pay the bills soon!" Her father raised her voice.
"You said that almost every month that I've been pregnant," Gwen's mom raised her voice. "I've had to dig into my savings and pay them myself! In fact I always pay the bills! Maybe if you would stop wasting your money on alcohol, you'd be able to man up and take some responsibility for once!"
An eight year old Gwen watched as her parents argued. Her parents had argued before, but this time it was different. Her father had been drinking a lot lately…
"Hey," Gwen's dad yelled. "Don't you tell me about manning up and taking responsibility! I'm the man of this house!"
"Well you haven't acted like it!" Gwen's mother yelled. "I've been paying the bills, taking care of Gwen, and you've… you've been lying around drinking!"
"Don't you talk to me about drinking!" Her father yelled back.
"Why? It's a problem of yours!"
This type of yelling can't be good for the baby…
Gwen's dad angrily got up, grabbed his jacket, his keys, and walked out of the door. Usually, when her parents argued like this, her dad got angry and left. But he always came back. And they solved their problems.
Little did they know, he wasn't coming back this time…
A week passed by and Gwen's dad still wasn't back.
"Is daddy coming home?" Gwen asked and her mother simply shrugged.
Weeks turned into months…and months turned into years. Her mom had went into labor and her father was nowhere to be seen. Gwen's mom called her sister to watch Gwen when she couldn't.
Her mom's family had been helping out that first year her father was gone. Pretty soon her mom found a babysitter and she was able to start work again. It had been seven long years without her father. They were doing alright and they were happy. But every Father's Day Gwen always wondered…
"Is daddy coming home?"
A/N: I actually kind of feel sorry for Gwen now… Review please!
