Midnight in the Castle
Sometimes Remus would sneak into the common room after a night of studying in the library and up to the girl's dormitories after midnight, the Fat Lady too tired to question his late night ventures. Sometimes he would just watch her sleep. His desire to be with her burning like a flame. He wanted her more than James ever would. Wanted all of her, not only what was between her legs. He really loved Lily, but knew she could never think of him the same way.
Occasionally he would be brave enough to brush a stray strand of her hair away from her face. The fire in his soul meeting the fire that danced around her head and threatening to consume him. He would have suffered for her, though. For Lily he would have done anything. She thought of him as a friend of course, caring and sweet, but he wanted more.
Though Remus loved Lily he also desired her, just as James did; perhaps even more. She was everything he wanted in a mate and he vowed that he would never take anyone unless he could have her under him, writhing with pleasure and calling his name. She who had finally agreed to go out with his best friend was the only one who he would ever consent to drive into with the wild animal passion that waited within him.
He would eventually leave her side and crawl into bed, managing to average a few hours of sleep every night. His friends never suspected that he had spent most of the night lusting after a girl. They attributed his tiredness to his…furry little problem. He would see her in classes and they would talk of innocent things and he pretended that they could be just friends.
Sometimes after she was tucked into bed, Lily would wait for him to come. He usually came in after he was finished studying and watched her while she 'slept.' Fortunately she was good at making the circles under her eyes disappear, because she couldn't bear to fall asleep with him so close. She loved it when he would brush her hair away from her face, letting his hand linger for just a moment against her cheek.
Lily really loved Remus, though James was the one that pursued her like the devil had set fire under his ass. She wanted Remus to be the one that tried to woo her with pretty words and shiny things. He would never be the type to admit his feelings, though. He was too shy and reserved. He was also concerned about his…problem.
She didn't mind that he was different. She would have given up everything if only he asked her. Eventually she had had to give in to James's offers of a date. If it meant that she could spend more time with Remus she would date Potter.
The loneliest part of the night came when he left her to get into his own bed. She would lie awake until her alarm went off wishing that he had climbed into her bed instead. Her friends never seemed to notice that someone had been in the room, watching over her. She would see him in class and watch his face carefully for signs of happiness. It was rare that they would chat about anything that mattered. She thought that perhaps he wanted to ask her out, but he never did and so she would turn to James and laugh at his stupid jokes.
