1997 and 2019- Magic
1997
Ginny
"You look fine!" Neville insisted for the sixteenth time that evening, Ron nodded agreeing with him despite giving up reassuring Hermione that her makeup looked fine half an hour before. Harry glanced at me and smiled, a droplet of water dripped from his fringe and landed on his nose splashing his glasses, I giggled as he rolled his eyes and attempted to wipe his glasses clear of water using his sopping sleeve. Luna wandered along next to us smiling happily somehow not drenched and if it was possible we were getting even more stares than usual as we strolled through Hogsmeade; it was the first Hogsmeade trip of the year and the boys had decided to come and visit us for a romantic date - Harry had come with Teddy and Andromeda who were taking a tour of the village while Harry met up with us but we would meet back up later.
We had then met up with George and Percy in the Three Broomsticks where they were searching for properties to create their Hogsmeade branch of WWW's and we decided to trick or treat them only our water balloon plan may have backfired slightly and we decided to scamper and attempt to make the best of our double date plus two.
In the hordes of students we were barely noticed, well before the water balloon incident after it was because we were drenched not because we had "saved the world" or knew the "saviour of the wizarding world" and it was very nice to be an ordinary student for the day.
"Are you sure?" Hermione asked and I rolled my eyes.
"Hermione its fine." I insisted knowing how long she had spent on her makeup trying to impress Ron, like he needed impressing, if he can kiss her in the Room of Requirement holding a basilisk fang in the middle of a battle after destroying a Horcrux he wouldn't mind what she looked like. She smiled at me before tugging on Ron's hand and pointing down the road.
"What's that?" she asked and I looked the direction she was pointing at to see a small stall selling what looked like Halloween masks.
"No idea, let's go take a look." Harry said pulling out his wand, frowning determinedly and marching over to the stall, I sighed.
"Thanks Hermione, now he's in auror mode." Hermione smiled at me before rushing off after Harry causing me to roll my eyes, sometimes I wondered who Harry was really dating: me or his job? Ron smiled at me and we followed the other two over to the stall to find Harry holding up a Death Eater mask to his face, he turned when we approached and struck a pose.
"How do I look? Does it suit me?" we laughed.
"No mate, it doesn't really work and you'd better be careful I hear the auror department are looking out for left over Death Eaters, they might mistake you as one." Neville said between laughs causing the rest of us to laugh even harder.
"They might." Said the stall owner, who had obviously not recognised us or caught on. "You should be careful; I hear Harry Potter's been out and about catching them all, you don't want him to mistake you for a Death Eater." He looked really confused when we laughed even more.
"I sincerely doubt that." A snide voice drawled behind us sounding very miffed, I turned around to see a man in black robes lazily tapping his wand on his thigh staring at us as he leaned against a tree.
"You might be right about that." Said Harry slowly, removing the mask so he could get a better look at the man.
"Harry Potter." The man drawled lazily, apparently he liked drawling. "It's very nice to meet you; it's a shame I have to do this." I had pulled my wand out and was halfway through casting a shield charm when the curse shot past my ear and Harry dragged me to the ground. Hermione was doing some quick charm work and Neville and Luna had got the stall owner down on the ground. Harry shot a stunner in the man's direction but he ducked behind the tree he had been leaning on so Harry's stunner caused a burn mark on the bark. I glanced sideways at Harry who was looked slightly panicked.
"It's too crowed." He hissed and I looked around realising that he was right. "You run left and I'll run right, try to stun him." I nodded and gripped my wand.
"Three, two…" I was cut off by a scream down the street and a few spells flying over my head and hitting the stall causing it to burst into flame. I hoped the man had some other form of employment or was at least insured because there was no repairing that.
"Death Eaters!" Somebody screamed and immediately chaos ensured as everybody tried to run to safety. There was a crash and I span around realising that I had been staring down the street and had completely forgotten about the man, I raised my wand again ready to fight to find the man lying still at Ron's feet.
"We've got to get the students to safety." Hermione appeared out of nowhere Neville and Luna close on her tail. Harry nodded and I looked down the street again, the Death Eaters seamed to be at the other end of the street and carving a passage through the few students and Hogsmeade shop owners brave enough to fight them.
"Okay. Neville, Luna get as many students out of here as possible, we need to take down as many Death Eaters as possible ASAP." He added to me, Ron and Hermione. We all nodded and Neville and Luna ran down the street ushering all students away from the chaos while we ran down the street until we could see the Death Eaters and started firing curses at them.
"It's Potter!" One of them screamed before Hermione hit them with a hex effectively shutting them up.
"Harry, duck!" I yelled as a strange black curse came flying towards us, Harry, being the noble idiot he his, didn't duck but threw up a shield to protect us both. The curse shattered it upon impact but by then we were already fighting and the Death Eater who had shot the curse was lying on the floor with tentacles growing out of his head. No idea how that happened. I threw several bat-bogy hexes in the direction of the last few Death Eaters standing who hadn't been cut down my us Ron, Hermione or any of the other fighter who had moved away to drag the few injured people away effectively making the odds even, against us anyway, two of the Death Eaters looked at each other and apparated away leaving their fellow comrades to take the curses meant for them as well as their own.
There was a moment of silence as we looked around searching for any more Death Eater before Ron lowered his wand slightly and turned to where me and Harry were standing mirroring Ron and Hermione's position about ten metre's away.
"Where do you think they went?" he asked and Harry shrugged.
"Back to their safe house maybe? I dunno, they could have gone anywhere but I think it'll be to hide." Ron nodded and then looked at something over my shoulder. I turned to see where he was looking and frowned.
"What's that?" I started to walk towards a small ally which was emitting a soft glow, I raised my wand and jumped into the ally mouth to see nothing. It was a dead end, the only think in it were foot high words carved an inch into the wall:
You will never beat Thantomyriad.
"What the hell?" Apparently I said it louder than I intended as Harry, Ron and Hermione ran around to corner to find me staring in shock at the words my wand resting at my side, and I had though The Chamber of Secrets has opened, enemies of the heir beware was bad. That was just screaming pay-attention-to-me without the clever wording and twisted meaning.
"Why?" Hermione said after a full minute of silence.
"Maybe they're just egotistical?" Harry suggested. "But if they're Thanto-what's-it why wear Death Eater robes?"
"Maybe it's a new group made by the left over Death Eaters and they wanted one last Death Eater show before being fantas forever more? I mean the Death Eaters were Voldemorts followers, they must be something new since he's dead and beaten." Ron said sounding intelligent for once in his life. We lapsed into silence again staring at the words before I turned slightly as a gust of wind blew through the village and a blinding light appeared at the end of the alley. I threw my hand up over my eyes until it dimmed slightly and I was able to make out a rectangular shape through my fingers, then all the air was pushed out of my lungs and I stumbled forwards being pulled my the doorway.
I don't know how but I knew that was exactly what the light was; a doorway into a new world. A new time.
It was slightly more stylish than last time and this time I knew what would happen or at least I hoped so. I could end up anywhere, anywhen too, and anywhen had an awful lot of bad guys in it. I glanced behind me to see that everybody else seemed to be having the same internal struggle and I made up my mind.
I held out my hand to Harry, who didn't hesitate before grabbing it and smiling at me doing the same to Ron who grabbed Hermione. I waited half a second longer staring down the alley into Hogsmeade which I knew and where I belonged before turning and leaping into the portal dragging Harry and in turn Ron and Hermione with me.
At least wherever - whenever - I ended up I'd be with my family to face whatever history could throw at us.
I had many plans for the Halloween of 1998; eating lots of sweets was one plan; dressing Teddy up and getting more sweets was another; a romantic dinner with Harry was there; pranking George and Percy was still in the works; fighting Death Eaters and avoiding death wasn't on the plan through, neither for some strange reason, was falling through a portal and ending up in a different time. Again.
Unfortunately the Captain has terrible timing and therefore all of the above, the ones that weren't planed anyway, occurred. Not that I'm complaining or anything.
I've actually kind of missed having adventures.

Rule number one of pranking: don't get caught – unless of course you want to be able to claim said prank or want to make a point. I generally like listening to this rule and not gaining a months' worth of detentions; I have a lot of studying to do thank you very much, I cannot allow Rose to beat me at everything, it would be a disgrace to the Malfoy name. Anyway back to not getting caught and, if you hadn't picked it up already, failing miserably.
I mean how were we supposed to know that Professor Binns was ill and not teaching us? How were we supposed to know that ghosts even got ill? How were we supposed to know that with an ill ghost, whom not even death could stop him teaching, that we would have a cover teacher and that said cover teacher would be the Ancient Runes teacher, Professor Abercrombie, who hates us? The water balloon had barely burst by the time she was dragging me, Rose and Al up to the Headmistresses office complaining about stupid students, abandoning us and running to find Professor Sinistra.
I sighed and collapsed in one of the chairs in front of the Headmistresses desk, Al and Rose followed suit putting their heads in their hands and generally looking annoyed.
"Well this sucks." I said finally and Al looked up at me.
"You don't say? I mean seriously why does she have to blame us for everything? I know we actually did do it this time but seriously? Why?" He said waving his arms about and hitting Rose in the face. "Oh sorry."
"Dat's okay." Rose said holding her nose so her voice was muffled.
"What's okay?" Said a voice behind us and we all turned to see Professor Sinistra standing in the doorway staring at us.
"Al hit Rose in the face." I said at once and ignored their glares.
"I see." Sinistra pondered walking around us to sit at her desk and stare at us better. "Now did you or did you not place a water balloon above the History of Magic door?" Al and Rose exchanged glances before looking at me.
"Yes." I replied as nominated spokesman.
"Who was it intended for?"
"Anybody."
"So not for Professor Abercrombie?"
"If it was intended for her it would have been placed above the Runes door, not History." Al interrupted.
"Okay, that'll be twenty points from Gryffindor and ten from Slytherin." Sinistra said looking down at some papers on her desk. I glanced at Rose who was staring at Sinistra in shock; Sinistra looked up at us and smiled slightly. "Is there something you want?"
"No Professor." Al said standing up and grabbing my arm to drag me out of the room shortly followed by Rose.
"Well that was anti-climactic." I said as we walked down the charms corridor.
"You can say that again." Rose agreed.
"Well that was anti-climactic." Rose glared at me as I smiled innocently.
"That wasn't what I meant."
"What did you mean then?"
"I was agreeing with you, it's a figure of speech!"
"Why didn't you say so?"
"Malfoy I am going to kill you."
"Why would you do that?"
"You insurable little– "
"Incoming." Al interrupted and we both looked up to see Murphy Goyle marching towards us a smug look on his face.
"Going to pack our bags are we?" He asked.
"I'll rue the day when one can get expelled for dropping a water balloon." I snapped already reaching for my wand; unfortunately Goyle noticed and went for his too.
"You never know, somebody could actually clean this place up and not let any blood traitors or mudbloods-" Goyle ducked as Rose sent a curse at him and retaliated with one of his own, only me and Al hit him first with stunners causing him to collapse on the floor while his curse racketed off the ceiling. There was a meowing Mrs Norris walked around the corner, looked at us standing with our wands out and down to Goyle before sprinting away.
"Shit." Al said, stuffing his wand away and turning and running, Rose followed and I shot Goyle one last look before following the cowardly Gryffindors. After about ten minutes of running in the direction, I realised after far too long, of the Gryffindor common room Al stopped dead as he turned round a corner letting Rose run straight into him so that they landed in a pile on the floor. I slowed down and managed to stop before flowing them down and looked down the corridor to see James curled up in a ball leaning against the wall holding a bar of chocolate and looking thoroughly depressed. Hugo sat next to him smirking at Rose or possibly Al while patting James comfortingly on the back and Lilly stood with her hands on her hips looking furious and glaring at James having not noticed our arrival.
"Is he moping again?" Al asked from the floor causing his siblings to turn and look at him in surprise.
"Yes." Said Lilly as James scoffed slightly and said: "I don't mope," causing Lilly to turn back to glare at him. "Yes James you do and it's really starting to get on my nerves." James opened his mouth to retort when I decided to cut in.
"Okay guys this is awesome and everything but we're kinda running for our lives." Rose crawled off Al and stood next to me.
"That is a very good point." She said glancing down the hall we had just come from. "And shouldn't you guys be in class?" Lilly and Hugo glanced at each other.
"Free period." They chorused together like they'd been practicing, Rose rolled her eyes but didn't say anything.
"Anyway let's go talk somewhere private." Al said finally getting off the floor and marching over to James. "Somewhere where we can hide and sort out your pathetic love life all at the same time." HE hauled James to his feet and dragged him around the next corner and over to the door to the stairs to the astronomy tower and opened the door. "Are you coming?" he asked in his most patronising tone before dragging James up the stairs. I glanced at Rose who shrugged and followed them up; Lilly and Hugo walked over together and left me rolling my eyes at the bottom of the stairs before following them up closing the door behind me. By the time I had caught up with them at the top of the stairs Al and James were already arguing, I tuned them out as I always did and walked over to the barrier to look out over the Hogwarts grounds, soaking in its beauty and not realising that Rose had joined me until she grabbed my hand and smiled at me.
"He doesn't seem to realise that we all miss them does he?" She asked quietly her eyes flickering over to James who had given up the argument and was slumping halfway off the railing while AL half glared half looked in disgust at him and Hugo levitated small stones over the edge and watched them drop while Lilly was in a similar position to Al so while I couldn't see her face with her back to me I could very easily win lots of money betting that she had exactly the same expression as Al on her face.
"He's in love." I replied just as quietly. "I hear that it's a very prominent feature, not being able to stop thinking about the very beautiful person who makes you whole." Rose smiled and leaned forward slightly.
"Is that a general comment or very specific to one person?" She asked.
"I think you know." I replied leaning forward to kiss her when there was a loud crack behind us and I span around wand at the readying to find the railing broken off and Al, Lilly and Hugo grabbing James arms as he dangled off of Hogwarts tallest tower.
"James!" Rose screamed and ran forward to help pointing her wand at him and slowly levitating him up. I helped her and in a matter of seconds James Potter was once again back on solid ground. Literally, on the floor. We all panted in silence for a moment before James grinned.
"Windy day today." He said and laughed as there was a very loud creek which caused him to abruptly stop laughing.
"What was that?" Hugo asked nervously.
"Something bad." Lilly replied. There was a second of silence as we thought about what she had said before the floor gave way beneath us and we were falling to our deaths. Surprise and fear surged through my body and I looked down to see a small pinprick of light, very, very bright light, on the ground become larger and larger. The wind was whistling in my ears and I did nothing as the light was shown to be quiet big, big enough to take all of us, and shimmering at the edges like a mirage.
Somehow our fall sped up the closer we got to it and my brain managed to finally figure out what it was.
A portal.
And I could only think of one reason, and one person, who would make a portal at the bottom of the tower after making us fall several hundred feet and I was not pleased.
It was then it occurred to me that I didn't know where and when the portal would drop us and we were still falling so it was guaranteed to hurt.
"Oh shit." I screamed, my voice lost in wind. Not only would I most likely die from fall damage but my parents wouldn't be able to bury my body. Unless I fell into my grave. MY mother was going to kill me and on the off chance that I survived she would still kill me for leaving again, like I had much choice either time.
The bright light burned even brighter in the last few milliseconds before we fell though it and I somehow managed to close my eyes so that the only reason I knew I had fallen into it was because the temperature plummeted an d my increased chance of death increased some more before were through and in the unknown in every way shape and form.
So here's the full chapter one, complete with next-gen. The next chapter might or might not be up on Wednesday but there will at least be an announcement on whether or not this story is going on hold until May. Currently I'm thinking it will be but there's some time left for me to change my mind.
I don't own Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling does.
