CHAPTER 1:
"This is awesome!" TheKingNappy exclaims to Shadypenguinn, "It's so real!"
It's finally happened. Technology has finally come as far to allow a true virtual reality to video games, video games exclusively to Pokémon games. It is the first beta where challengers of the game can use special equipment to enter into the Pokémon World. There, they can catch up to six Pokémon to take with them through the entire game and beat the gym leaders and other challenges throughout the game. It's the real Pokémon experience.
The mechanics of the game are almost exactly like the original console games, however, the trainers in the game can take various routes to what their goals are in the game. They can be coordinators, they can be rangers, and they can be anything they want to be, as long as they beat those perspectives of the games story. It was a fabulous invention that Pokémon players had been waiting for indeed.
However, the video game was definitely in beta mode so only select players are able to try it. The game makers thought the best testers would be the competitive players of the games themselves, the PokeTubers from YouTube! They have been in the Pokémon competitions and have climbed the letters of the VGC tournaments in the games so they are definitely talented enough to play the game.
TheKingNappy and Shadypenguinn are the first o the Poketubers to have been teleported into the game with the teleportation equipment. The virtual world they are in is an almost perfect simulation of the real world. The confinement theyre in has dark grey walls with Pokémon posters plastered all around them with hints and specs of the game. The room is dimply lit, and there is a table with 8 computers on them. In between each computer there is a raster of Poke'balls in them, however, they are empty until the rest of the players come and select their Pokémon.
"Yo, imagine how this game is going to be when the entire world can get their hands on it?" Shadypenguinn replies, gripping the poke ball firmly in his hands.
"Who are you going to choose as your six Pokémon, Shady?" Nappy asks him.
Shady thinks about it for a second, and then chuckles to himself,
"I'm not gonna tell you Nappy. It brings more fun to the game."
"Ah, ah, really Shady?" Nappy laughs back. He would do that.
The dull lights begin flashing as a third person seems to have been dropped into the room.
"Ah, lookie here, if isn't the hax God himself!" Nappy says, pointing to Mohit.
"Oh crap, It's Mo!" Shady recites after Nappy as they join Mohit in the center of the room.
"Hold you applause, hold your applause, Kristen and Pksparks should be coming up next!" Mo hoots, as in a flash the two of them blink themselves into the room as well.
"Hey guys!" Kristen says as she runs and hugs the rest of the crew.
"Kristen, save some of the love for me!" Pk jokes, coolly walking over to them.
"The whole team is here, this is great." Shady says as another person who pops into the room catches his attention. "And look, if it isn't my man, ItsNipps! How ya doing buddy?"
ItsNipps throws his arms up and walks over to everyone,
"Feeling great! We are going to wreck this Game!"
The group of friends chatters amongst each themselves for what seemed like quite the time. There are only two spots left in the Beta test, who is going to be the final two? Shady and Nappy already knew that they were going to be the first ones as they were approached for the game, first, during their co-op lets play of Pokémon gold and silver that they are running on their YouTube channels. But the rest of the testers were a definite surprise! They were all extremely, grateful, however, that all of them were friends in their community and that were going to get to play together.
After a few more hours, the gang gets a little restless, wondering what is taking so long? They asked each other if any of them knew who the final two of the game were and each of them answered with a simple, "no." Were the GameMakers having trouble finding the final contestants?
Their thoughts were finally put to rest as two more lights began to shimmer and the final pairing finally came into the game room! It was the wonderful, "HaydunnOfficial" and wait, who is that?
The girl next to Hayden was not a PokeTuber. If fact, she wasn't a YouTuber at all, to the groups knowledge! She was a fan of their videos, yes, and even sent them some fan art but how is she able to play this game?
"What's up my homies" Hayden greets everyone and then focuses his attention to the person next to him giving the rest of the players' an awkward, gawking questioning glare.
"Beth?" Drew asks, breaking the silence.
Beth shifts awkwardly in place, her hands behind her back, playing with her fingers,
"Yeah, it's me. What… is this?" she responds, looking very perplexed.
"You don't know?" Nappy says, shocked.
Beth shakes her head,
"Mmm,Mmm. But I guess I shouldn't be afraid, right?"
"Why would you be afraid, Beth?" Kristen asks, "I am happy to finally meet you, though!"
"Wait wait, so you don't even know that you're in the beta, real life simulation of Pokémon and yet, you're here?" mo says, seeming a bit aggravated by her ignorance. He was here, thinking this game was exclusive to his pals based on their achievements as PokeTubers and great battlers. What is this girl doing here?
Beth shrugs her shoulders again, feeling a bit uncomfortable by Mo's irritability,
"Same here, Kristen. But I have to admit, this is not the way I imagined meeting some of my favorite Tubers. " She emphasizes, "However, it is pretty darn cool! Real Pokémon, seriously?" Beth started to feel a bit excited; she didn't think something like this was even possible!
"Oh but wait, isn't Twit supposed to be here?" Pk blurts out.
"Twit was supposed to be here?" Kristen says, turning to pk.
"Hey wait, I thought you didn't know who the other person was supposed to be?" asks Shady.
"I just remembered that I thought I heard him talking about it."
"Why wouldn't Twit tell me, though?" Kristen asks, confused, and feeling a little hurt that Beth got to be here when her boyfriend could have been,
"Hey, shit happens," Hayden nods to everyone, "Welcome aboard, beth!"
Beth sighs, and shakes his hands,
"Thanks, Hayden." Beth says, feeling a little relieved to be welcomed by someone, although she is sill confused how she is even there and has no idea what this even was until Mo said it.
Before they could all group together, a loud voice boomed over a what sounded like a speaker in the room. The voice was loud and harsh and it made the group jump from its random outburst,
"Hello all Pokémon Trainers! Welcome to the Beta test of the new Pokémon Game! I am sure you are all familiar with each other, and I do apologize for the random that is in the room, our system seemed to have had a hiccup and teleported the wrong person into the game!" he barks, in a hardy laugh as Beth shifts uncomfortably again looking away.
"Can it be fixed?" Pk asks, seeming curious, "No offense, sweetheart."
Beth just rolls her eyes, "Mhmm."
"It cannot, I am afraid because of the rules of the Beta. Which brings me to my next bit of rules." the announcer says, clearing his throat as the Tubers look at each other a little confused, as there are apparently more rules to the game than expected.
Beth squints her eyes,
"Wait, did you just say, "can't leave"?"
"Yes, young lady, you've caught on! I am sure you were all extremely happy to find out that you are going to be in our new, virtual reality, our new world of Pokémon! However, even though it is a virtual reality, you yourselves have been transported into the game. Not your minds, or whatever. You are physically there and the very fight is real. The fight, for your lives, I mean."
Everyone in the room gasps! No one agreed to being in a game that would hurt anyone! Or was he just implying the Pokémon? What is this, and who is this guy?!
"What do you mean, for our lives? It's Pokémon!" Shady hollers to the voice.
"Yes, however, Pokémon are a very dangerous species. They are powerful and the moves that they use are in fact damaging to your bodies and lives, as well. This is not a cartoon world, my friends; this is a virtual world with animals and objects of extreme power of elements amongst other things. What did you expect?"
Everyone stays quiet, trying to take in everything he was implying. Were these best friends and really going to use their favorite gaming media to battle each other for their lives? And how were they even supposed to that? What is this!
"You're crazy! Why would any of us every agree to do such a thing?!" Kristen shouts.
"Simple, it is in the Beta's rules that if you don't go through with the game you automatically forfeit which faints all of your Pokémon and makes you black out. However, when blanking out, you die." The announcer cuts himself short there, as the room begins to go into a small panic. Thoughts are racing across the PokeTubers minds as they begin to fathom the rules that are being rammed into their heads in such a short notice. Of course none of them never would have agreed to do this game if they knew it meant they had to fight to keep themselves alive!
"You can't do this!" Nappy rumbles.
"This isn't right! We never knew this!" screams Drew.
"What are we supposed to do to survive?!" Mo asks as cooly as possibly, trying to hold himself together.
"But what if we don't-" Pk tries to say but the announcer interjects,
"Good question, Mo. The game is your average Pokémon Game where you have to beat various quests, travel through the to collect badges or contest ribbons, whichever game path you choose, however, everyone that you battle is to make or break your life. You get only 6 Pokémon to travel through the game with and when one faints, there are no Pokémon that you can put into that ones place. You can, in fact, use revival items that you find throughout the game, but that is it. There are no items to attach to your Pokémon, and most importantly, there are no specifications to each Pokémon like HP, Attack, etcetera."
"Wait, so how do we know how strong our Pokémon are?!" Pk asks loudly.
"You will not know. The power of your Pokémon depends on how well you train them. Remember, this is real life, there are no spec bars on ourselves. It is only how we strategize and build ourselves up that makes it or breaks it. You need to look at your pokemons strengths and weaknesses by what they are. For example, you have a caterpie. That is a simple little bug. Bugs are slow, so a caterpie in retrospect would be slow. You have a pidgey, who is a bird, so naturally, a pidgey would be great at flying and faster than a bug, like caterpie. You well through this as you progress through the game, my friends." The announcer answers simply.
This was a lot for everyone to process. This means that all the knowledge they came in the game knowing of Pokémon is completely opposite of what the game used to be. If there are no stats and it's completely based on how you train your Pokémon to those strengths of what they are; how do you figure that out? How do you use that to your advantage?
"Now here is the last of the rules and I want no interruption despite how you may feel about them. You must complete the game. You cannot sit in idle. Feel free to band together if you would like, however, the teams can be no larger than 4 to a group. Which basically splits you all in half if that be how you choose. However, you must know that even if you all group yourselves together, eventually, you will have to disband. For the biggest rules of the games, is that you may have to betray one another in the game to get to where you need. For example, if you two of you are on the path defeat all the gyms, that means, when the final champion battle comes, only one of you can be champion."
"Are you kidding? That means that one of them would die!" Beth realizes out lied, as all eyes turn to her. Shes been quiet this entire time and now she speaks an undeniable truth. Will the Tubers have to… fight each other to ensure the other would survive?
"Yes, newcomer, you are correct. There are many possibilities and scenarios in the game that might vey well put you all against your friends. This is a game where you battle to the deaths, you battle to survive that may also mean having to defeat your friends to do it."
"No, that is so wrong!" Kristen cries out, backing up to the wall, "I don't want to battle any of my friends!"
"If you don't when that time may or may not come, Kristen, remember, you'd be forfeiting the game which means-" Nappy begins to say but doesn't finish.
"She'd be killing herself…" Shady says to himself quietly.
"Dude, you cant be serious! This cant be the rules, this cant be the way to beat the game! You're crazy!" Hayden chimes in, looking around, a little paranoid.
"You all, well, seven of you signed up for this and this is now the game you must follow. There is no escape from the game besides winning the path that you choose for your Pokémon game, now," all the computer chimes on in unison, "Please, feel free to choose the six Pokémon of your choice to accompany you in your game. You have ten minutes." The sound of a crackling speaker cuts out; leaving everyone stuck and afraid of what is to happen next.
Pk and Mo don't hesitate and get straight to the computer scrolling through the infamous amount of Pokémon from all of the regions and the Pokémon paths they could go through. They glance at each other every now and then and mumble unheard words to each other and continue on with their choices.
Shady looks at Nappy and Nipps and they both give each other worried looks as they go to choose their Pokémon in silence wondering if they would ever come to the inevitable and have to face each other? Theyre best friends, after all! The thought hurts them greatly. They all know their playing styles so well and maybe that could benefit them throughout the game to make coices that they know the other wouldn't. That way, they could keep themselves apart and not have to face each other. None of them want to die, and none of them want to hurt each other.
Kristen wobbles to the computer wondering, and thankful, that twit was not chosen for these affairs. The idea of losing him kills her as she thinks about what path in the game to take to keep herself away from the other Tubers. She knows the least likely path the better to keep her and the others safe from having to face each other.
Hayden shakes his head and keeps to himself as he scrolls through the Pokémon and paths through the game. He wonders if anyone will actually choose the path of a Pokémon trainer to get the badges? It is the most common way through the game, but will people choose it, knowing that they if they are on the same quest to be the master of the game they will have to fight each other to be the champion and these Tubers are pretty close. They wouldn't do that, so he takes the Pokémon trainer route. If his strategy is correct, he might be one of if not the only person taking the route. And who knows, he might lose sometime along the journey, unfavorably, of course, and that could help the other person who would choose the same thing.
Beth, however, stands by herself, looking at everyone at the computers, feeling like the odd ball and primarily a small target. She knows maybe one of the Tubers personally, (if you even want to call it that) and the others shes just some random girl. It is so weird to be in front of all of them and for it to be in a situation like this. So she sits down and thinks of her team, instead of looking them up. Why do that, anyway? She needs to think of the path through the game. There will probably mountain areas, swamps, etc, a whole new world, right? So she needs a diverse set of Pokémon that can get her through everything. She makes up her mind and goes over to the computer and chooses the Pokémon she wants. As for the kind of path she were to choose, she goes with a Pokémon Ranger. She will have a bit of power and knowledge of the Pokémon world dong that, she thinks.
Everyone chooses what they want before ten minutes are up so they begin chatting amongst themselves about what they are going to do. They strategize ways to not have to battle or fight each other. Mo, Pk, and Kristen decide that they would do great pairing with each other. They decide that the best way to survive, with the paths they chose, would go great together. Kristen is growing to be a Pokémon coordinator, Pk had chosen to become a Pokémon Gym Leader, and Mo, has decided to become a Pokémon Ninja. However, the description of that is very vague and Pk and Kristena are curious to see where it goes.
Beth takes this time walk around the room, reading the posters.
Shady, Nipps and Nappy sit down and discuss what they are supposed to do, now. Shady and Nappy both chose the same path to be Pokémon Professors. They both thought that with their knowledge of Pokémon and the fact hat they didn't want to battle, anymore, would be a smart idea. If they could study Pokémon throughout the game, they couldn't and wouldn't have to battle anyone. How right were they, thought? Nipps, however, chose be a Pokémon Ranger. He liked the idea of going through the game to become a powerful trainer to defend himself without having to be a trainer.
Hayden walks over to Pk and Kristen and asks,
"Hey, any one of you chooses to be a trainer?" When they tell him know, he humbly asks to join them saying that having the greater numbers might be better to get through the beginning of the game considering they don't know what it is going to bring them. They oblige,
"Hayden, you a good as hell battler, of course you can come join us!" Pk says slapping him on the back.
Hayden flinches at the gesture, not really wanting to be touched in such a situation but takes the compliment.
"Looks like they formed their group," Nappy says, looking over at Pk accepting Hayden.
"Doesn't that mean that no one else can be with them? That's four, right?" Shady asks, looking over at the new alliance.
"Yes. I guess they all chose different things, unlike you too buffoons." Nipps adds in, then looks around, "What about…" He spots Beth by herself in a corner, looking like she is thinking hard about something or just trying to pretend like she doesn't want to talk to anyone.
"You think she is going to do this by herself?" questions Nappy, looking to Drew and Shady for answers knowing that they have personally met her as they told him earlier when they had a moment of silence.
"That'd be a pretty bad idea, unless shes planning on battling us." Shady says flatly.
"I don't think so, Beth is always second guessing herself, ever notice that in her comments?" Nipps points out.
"Not really, we get so many." Shady throws out there.
"Should we, ask her to join us?" Nappy asks, hesitantly.
Shady, Nappy, and Nipps all look at each in silence for a bit, pondering the idea of adding her in when they know nothing about her. She seemed nice from when they met her, but when it comes to a battle for your life…
"Great, we all have our selections in under ten minutes," the announcer blurts out, interrupting everyone's thought. "It is great that you all now can see that the games must begin. Line up in front of the wall with the Pokémon posters, everyone," the Announcer bursts in as everyone gauchely walk over to the wall. "There ill be two doors opening. You may all choose which doors to go through, however," he treads off for a second then continues, "Because of the pairings, Pksparks, you may choose the room for your group to go into, and then the rest shall go through the opposite door." Aha, they already chose for them if Beth was going to join them. She had to, now, since she couldn't join the already formed group of Hayden, Pk, Kristen and Mo. How will that turn out for them, they wonder?
Beth walks over and stands next to Nappy, and sighs,
"Great, theyre already choosing what we are supposed to be doing." Nappy looks at Beth as she mumbles this under breath and wonders what she means? They were already calling the shots to begin with. What a strange girl.
The doors fling open as Pk's group go through the doors to the left which leaves Shady's group to through the doors to the right.
"Good luck, everyone, in the battles to come. The game is going to be hard as you will face countless challenges in the Pokemon World. You will have to make hard antics to fight through, make difficult decisions that will challenge yourself and your morals as a person, and most importantly, battle to keep yourselves alive whether it be against each other, or against the foes in the game. Good luck, and enjoy, The PokeTuber Games!"
