The moment Coruscant blew, Ezra knew what was going to happen. The First Order moved in from all around the galaxy, destroying everything in their path. While Mira and Kristen hid, Ezra and Sabine directed civilians away from battlefields and gave coordinates to safe zones on Garel, Sanctuary, Lothal anywhere that was relatively off-the-grid. Hera valiantly fought against TIE Fighters as they tried to kill civilians that ran. Jacen used the guns on the Ghost to keep fighters off Hera's tail.
No matter how many stormtroopers Sabine dropped or Ezra sliced, there were more, and slowly, the two were pushed back. Ezra Force-Pushed twelve or so stormtroopers as Sabine ran up the ramp of the Starhawk. Mira and Kristen sprinted up the ramp.
The Starhawk began to lift off, and Ezra jumped onto the ramp as it closed. He commed Hera desperately, telling her that the battle was lost. They needed to get off Dac, where they had been vacationing.
A First Order ship floated over Dac, raining turbolaser fire down. The Starhawk and the Ghost dodged TIEs as they set coordinates for Lothal.
Nobody said anything as the ships hurtled through hyperspace, blue and white passing by the cockpit, making a beautiful image. Finally, Sabine broke the silence.
"We must resist."
The words were simple on the surface, but they carried meaning. The message behind them ran from experience under the Empire's tyranny, when nothing was correct. Stormtroopers brutalized everything and everyone that dared to nudge a toe out of line. They cast a shadow of despair upon the galaxy.
But the Rebellion had formed from the ruins of the Republic, and they had carried with them a torch of hope. Hope that, someday, things would get better. That people could walk the streets without the gaze of white-armored troopers upon them.
And the sparks from that torch had burned down the Empire, paving the way for democracy to flourish.
And they would resist. From the day, the rueful day that the Hosnian system was destroyed, the crew of the Ghost would reform back under one banner and affiliate themselves with the Resistance. And from there, they would make sure that the First Order would fall, no matter what it took.
Kanan had sacrificed himself to save Lothal from the Empire. And the rest of the crew would make sure that Lothal was never anything but democratic until they died.
But they would not die from First Order blaster fire. Lothal would never fall under the First Order's government. Lothal would remain a bastion of democracy, a safeworld for the Resistance.
A stronghold of hope.
