FYI: This poem has the same exact concept as Evanescence's "Imaginary" but it's not exactly the same.
I DO NOT THINK RAVEN IS EMO!

Close My Eyes
This pain is too much torment
The world wallows in torture
Is there any escape?
Could it be wrong to hope?
-----
If I could just close my eyes
Pretend I'm far away
Surrounded by familiar shadows
In my dark haven and stay
-----
So I took pieces of myself
And put up a wall around me
Willingly forsaking life
Oh, god, I need this sanity!
-----
Now I can just close my eyes
Pretend I'm far away
Surrounded by familiar shadows
In my dark haven I sway…
-----
To the sounds of the winds
And the song of the sky
Now I add in safe darkness
This world is all mine!
-----
But can I just close my eyes,
Pretend I'm far away?
I'm in my own safe world
But the real one's a night away…
-----
I dream in sweet serenity
Safe from life's harms
But real life's not really gone
And so very close, too little far…
-----
If I could just close my eyes
Wish all troubles away
Could the sweet darkness
Cure and heal the pain?
-----
I lie at night and want to dream
Let me stay
In my own world, where I'm safe on my own wings
-----
Close my eyes -
let me stay -
safe from life -
fade away
-----
Still I know reality
Is just one waking moment away
Chaos returns with the rising sun
And my harmony fades away
-----
If I could just close my eyes
Leave all of life behind
How sweet it'd be! But no –
At least I'm safe in my own mind
-----
My haven of shadows

Please don't start thinking I'm this suicidal emo chick! I swear I'm not. I may be dark, but never emo. (In case you're wondering where in God's name that came from, someone read it and thought I was suicidal.) The same exact thing goes for Raven; please excuse Nightlark's review, I'm begging you.
Sounded a lot like Imaginary, didn't it…? A little more depressing, though. Or is it just me? At least answer that even if you don't want to tell me what you think of the poem in a review.
Review please,
Raven's secret-keeper
