Just a short little drabble I came up with while reading some old Doctor Who 'had a nightmare' plotted stories. Hope you like this 409 word story!
He has nothing left to live for.
His friends,his family,his home. All destroyed. All dead.
He walks alone along the Thames River Bridge and stares into the water, wondering what it would be like to jump into the water and drown. To die would end this crushing agony he feels.
He closes his eyes but sees the destruction of his planet. He jerks them open again.
There is no noise where he is on the bridge, yet in his tortured mind he can hear the screams of the people he has killed.
He chokes back a sob and wishes that he too was dead. But no. He is the last of his kind. The Time Lords cannot cease existence that easily. He will continue to live on. Crushed, broken, and alone for the rest of his centuries long life.
He can't fight them any longer and the tears start to pour from his eyes.
He closes his eyes and this time, hears nothing but silence. The silence. Oh, the silence! It was even worse than the screams that haunt and traumatize him. It is there instead of the voices his head was once filled with. Now it is silent.
He struggles to fight back a sob and fails to do so. He drops down, his back to the bridges wall and buries his face in his hands. He begins to cry.
But then he hears a gentle voice, begging him to wake up. That it is okay. She is here. His eyes flutter open and he realizes he is being held by his Rose. His golden ray of sunshine in his lonely and traumatized life. He lets himself melt into her embrace.
"Wh-what happened?" he asks her.
" You were having another nightmare. But it's okay. I'm here now Doctor. You're safe."
She gently rubs her hand up and down his bare back in soft motions and strokes his close cropped black hair until he's fallen back asleep in her arms.
She kisses his forehead before laying him back on his pillow and climbing into the bed herself.
She lays her head on his bare torso and closes her eyes. The last thing she thinks before falling back asleep herself is that she is here for him and will stay with him as long as the nightmares continue to cause him grief and pain.
