Author's Note: So this is my very first story for this site! Reviews are encouraged cause I don't know how to write HURRHURR
I don't grumpy Boone or Fallout: New Vegas cause only Bethesda and Obsidian can make something so glitchy WOOPS DID I SAY THAT OUT LOUD?
The Mojave Wasteland isn't a friend to human heaters like Annie Oakley. The sun was beating down on her and her partner like it had a grudge. Boone could've taken it almost lightly if it wasn't for the fact that they had been walking for hours. Yes, the travelers were tired and luckily they saw a building that stood oddly in the middle of the desert. They didn't care if it might've been infested with. The building was a building and that meant shade.
Annie and Boone stumbled in. The First Recon sniper made his way to the nearest ruined chair, and the Courier slumped over a desk as she sat down near the library's counter. Both sighed in exasperation.
"It's hot," Annie whined. She folded her arms around her head shut her eyes.
"Yeah," Boone took off his beret and ran his hand over his shaved head. He put it back on his head and got up, "we should check to see if anyone, or anything, is hiding in here."
With a groan, the Courier heaved herself up and grabbed her ever-trusted Trail Carbine. They split up in two directions; Annie would take the East side and Boone would take the West side. The two scanned their surroundings – so far, so good. No signs of dirty Fiends or mindless Ghouls. Definitely no Super Mutants. They rejoined at the back of the building, telling one another that it was clear on their side.
"Is this really a building completely void of life," Annie asked as she sat down in an arm chair.
"Guess so."
Boone plopped down once again, but the Courier, curious, got up and looked through some of the books in the shelves. Most of them were burned or didn't have all the pages. She headed to the other side of the bookshelves and saw remarkably colourful book sitting in between the rest of the forgotten literature. Annie grabbed it and as she was walking back to Boone, she read the title out loud.
"Inside Your Outside by Dr. Seuss."
"What," Boone looked up and noticed the book in her hands, "what is that?"
"It was children's book I guess," she sat down next to him and opened the first page, "it's weird how it's in such great condition."
Boone leaned back, losing interest, "yeah."
She turned the pages and read them out loud, quietly, to herself. It was nice to have a moment of innocence and peace. That library had stood there, untouched by Wasteland for a long while, until now. Annie felt an odd pride knowing that they were possibly the first ones to discover it. After she read it, Annie put the book in her satchel, and leaned forward to put her hands on her face, "sigh."
"What," he asked dryly, half expecting her to start pouting.
"Let's go," the Courier, with a big stupid grin on her face, helped Boone on his feet and left the library.
"That Dr. Seuss guy would be proud to see that his book wasn't damaged."
