Anything that you recognize does not belong to me.
I'm running, running to find him. I haven't seen him in years, but he has called me and I would do almost anything for him. Not that I love him, no. He is like a brother to me. He's called me and said that his coven is in trouble and that the Volturi are coming. Normally I wouldn't have cared, even with Jasper being the one to have called me. But Nahuel is with them, so I don't have much of a choice. Nahuel is a half-"Vampyre", half-human hybrid. I use the word Vampyre loosely, as these are not the traditional creatures that come to mind. These Vampyres do not burn in the sunlight. They sparkle. And they don't have blood. Nahuel's mother, Pire, was my friend a hundred and fifty years ago. I protected him from his father, Joham, when Huilen - Nahuel's aunt - was in transition. So now I'm running to him.
I have to stop and hunt, so I find a cabin in the woods and am relieved to find there is a human inside. I knock, and a human male with short blond hair opens the door. "Hello." I say, "I got lost in the woods while I was hiking and my phone is dead. Can I use yours?" He looks me up and down, taking in my small size. Well, looks can be deceiving. "Sure." He says, smiling. "Come in." That's what I need. Unlike the Vampyres I'm going to, I need permission to enter someones home. I step inside and let him lead me to the back of the house, where the phone is. I pick up the phone and he turns to leave. I drop the phone and lung at him, feeling my fangs elongate. He doesn't even have time to scream. I snap his spine and dig my teeth into his neck. I can feel the strength flowing into my body. (A/N I've been starting a lot of sentences with "I". Sorry about that.) When he is drained, I step out of the house and start running again, not bothering to hide the body. I'll be long gone by the time anyone finds it.
Soon I'm in the forest surrounding Forks, Washington. I can smell Jasper a few miles north of me. As I get close I slow down because I can smell not two people like I had thought would be there, but four. I can make out three of the scents. Jasper, of course, Nahuel, and Huilen. But I don't recognize the fourth scent. I hear a woman start talking. "Are you sure she's coming, Jazz? I can't see her." Jasper's voice now. "Yes I'm sure Alice. You can't see her for the same reason you can't see the Quileutes or Nessie." the woman, Alice, again. "But we're wasting time! Aro is going to start a fight soon. I can see that." I decide to reveal myself.
I step into a meadow where Jasper and the others are. He sees me. "I told you she was coming, Alice, and she's here." Alice spins around and looks at me. "Finally! We've been waiting for at least a half an hour" she says. "Sorry," I say, "I had to hunt. And I was in California when Jasper called." Alice looks alarmed. "You can't hunt near here!" I try to calm her. "I know, I know, this is your land. I won't poach." " No! You don't understand. There are werewolves here. They kill Vampyres that hunt humans." she says. I scoff. "Werewolves are only dangerous during a full moon. That's common knowledge." She looks startled. "The werewolves here can transform whenever they want. They're helping us against the Volturi." "Oh," I nod. "They're shape-shifters. That'll make Caius's day. Speaking of Caius, shouldn't we go stop him?" I look toward Nahuel and Huilen. They've been silently watching us. "You think Aro will be curious enough to leave and come back later?"
Nahuel steps forward. "Lets find out, Iris." I study him. His black hair is pulled back into a braid that goes past his shoulders and his dark eyes are defiant. "Yes, lets." I reply, and we start running.
