Dawn Shadows

Chapter 1
"Until she has earned her warrior name, this apprentice will be known as Shadowpaw. Smokestorm, you will be mentor to Shadowpaw. Heatherheart has taught you well and I hope you will pass on all you know to this apprentice." Riverstar, a silvery gray tom meowed. Shadowpaw dabbed her pink nose to Smokestorm's.
"Tinykit," Riverstar turned to Shadowpaw's sister, "you will be known as Tinypaw. Heatherheart, you are free to take on another apprentice now that Smokestorm is a warrior. I expect you to pass on all you know to Tinypaw."
"Tinypaw!" Tinypaw yowled her new name, which was silenced with a look from Heatherheart.
"Shadowpaw! Tinypaw!" The Clan shouted.
"Now, we fest!" Riverstar yowled.
"Are we gonna go hunting now?" Shadowpaw asked Smokestorm. Smokestorm yawned.
"No. I've been up all day. Lets eat and I'll take you hunting tomorrow." he muttered.
"Okay!" Shadowpaw meowed, and gleefully skipped to the Fresh Kill pile and took a fat water vole, taking it over to Tinypaw to eat.
"Shadowpaw."
Shadowpaw popped her head up to see Smokestorm's head poking through the hole in the apprentices den.
"Coming." Shadowpaw whispered. Shadowpaw had butterflies in her belly. She was going HUNTING! Hunting for the first time! When she emerged from the den Smokestorm asked, "are you hungry?"
"Nope!"
"Okay then. Let's go."
"Where to?"
"The River." Smokestorm meowed and sped off. Shadowpaw followed, her short legs barely able to keep up. When they finally reached the river, she dabbed her paw in the water.
"No, that's not how you hunt for fish!" Smokestorm scolded. "You do it like this." He sat beside the river staring down into the water. "Don't let your shadow touch the water. It would scare the fish." Shadowpaw sat down and watched her mentor. His paw flashed out and silver fish flu out of the water, water droplets followed it. He quickly killed it.
"Wow! That was amazing! Can I try?"
"Sure."
Shadowpaw sat next to the water like Smokestorm did. A fish swam in the water beneath her. She flashed out with one paw catching it and flinging it onto the bank, swiftly killing it.
"Great job!" Smokestorm praised.
My first kill! Shadowpaw thought gleefully as she followed her mentor back into the woods.
