As Amy entered the room that would hold the first ten minutes of school every day for the next year, she couldn't help but smile. She had her books clutched against her neatly pressed clothing and was excitedly awaiting her first lesson of the day which happened to be History. But right now, she had to get past homeroom.

Quickly, her happy mood was pushed aside when she saw the one person she was hoping wouldn't be a problem this year. Over the course of the summer, she had seemed to forget about the idiotic and childish Jake Peralta.

They catch eyes from across the room, making Jake happily call out her name. He gestures for her to go over and join him and his friends all sitting around him like he was royal. She was sure to bring that up with him later.

"No thanks, Peralta, I'd much rather sit alone than with you." She sighs as she sits down in one of the desks in the front row, close to the teacher's desk.

She could hear the group of people's rambling on from behind her but she chose to ignore it. Instead, she opens up her binder on the table, immediately opening to the tab for her neatly color-coded timetable to check what lessons she had today. History, Chemistry, English, Maths, Social Studies, and Physics. That's not too bad, she mentally thought to herself, as long as I'm not stuck with him.

Jake and Amy's rivalry dates back to the third grade, where they were partnered together for the group science project that year. Then every year followed that was either a partnered or grouped hell for them both. The worst project that had their names on was in the fifth grade, where they were grouped with Charles Boyle and Gina Linetti (Jake's best friend and longest friend together) to create a working volcano. Unfortunately, Jake had messed around with it the day before it was due to be handed in so they were given an F when they had nothing to present the next morning and a week's worth of detention when they never handed anything in. It was as she sat in the quiet and slightly isolated room in the corner of the elementary school that she decided no matter what happened, Amy Santiago would hate Jake Peralta for as long as she would live.

The door swings open and closes behind the teacher as he strides to his desk. "Good morning." He says simply as he sits in the chair before playing around with the settings. After a quiet minute, he looks back up to the class. "I am your homeroom teacher, Mister Holt. I will tell you now that I hope you all call me Holt, and not sir or mister."

Amy smiled to herself slightly, directing it in the path toward Holt. It may only be ten minutes in the morning, and she may have to sit in the same room as Jake and his friends during that time, but these might just be an okay sort of ten minutes.

"Now, by the requests from the principal, I have been asked to know your names." He said before pointing to the back corner desk. "You can begin for us."

The boy in the corner stumbles for a moment before sitting up in his seat and gazing around the room at everyone before looking dead-on forward. He fumbled with the suspenders that sat nicely on his shoulders. "Hi, my name's Terry Jeffords." He says a little quietly.

Holt thanks him quietly before moving his gaze to the next student, pointing at them subtly without saying a word.

The girl remained still and hardly looked around at the other people's stares to her. She kept her foot up on the table as she crossed her arms over her chest. "I'm Rosa Diaz." She informs the group of students with a tough tone in her voice.

The next student sat up fully in his seat, smiling broadly to everyone he could see. "Hi, everyone, my name is Charles Boyle."

The girl sat away from Charles stands from her seat. "I'm Gina." She says before sitting back down again. Amy didn't need this introduction, she already knew Gina very well from elementary and middle school and let's just say it wasn't the most pleasant experience.

Holt blankly points to the student sat beside Gina and pushes him to talk. Again though, Amy was already aware of this student's presence and wasn't in need of this introduction.

"I'm Jake Peralta." He says with a grin. "Somethings you need to know about me are: I love Die Hard am not particularly psyched about the whole 'going to school' thing you've put on us."

Holt stops him. "Thank you, Peralta, that will be enough," he instructs before looking over to Amy, "next up."

Amy sits up straightly in her seat and looks behind her to her other classmates and smiles slightly. "Hello, I am Amy Santiago."

Holt thanks her and continues around the room which the other students. A few minutes later, the bell rang out and everyone stood up to leave.

As everyone from homeroom fell out to the corridor, Amy began walking toward History before hearing Gina talking to Jake behind her.

"What do you have?" She wonders.

"History." Jake responds.

Gina suddenly breaks off. "Well, have fun." She says before stopping at a door.

Amy walks down the rest of the corridor before stopping outside her history room. A moment later, her head is whipping back to see somebody she was hoping was in the other class.

"Hey, Santiago." He greets her with a smile.

Amy nods slightly and smiles back at him weakly before looking back toward the door as the line begins moving into the classroom. Oh, crap. This isn't going to be good. She thinks to herself as she sees the seating plan on the board and that she was sat next to Jake during this semester.
