Title: On Cat Paws

Author: yellowhorde

Notes: This was written for the LiveJournal community, 31days. Challenge: November 07: Gloss on a decision of the council of Nicea

Honestly, I have NO idea what this challenge is about. From what I gathered from Google searches, this is the title to a book about segregation. Or about the changing of rules in some religious council a very long time ago. I decided to interpret it as the breaking or ignoring of established rules. If I have interpreted this wrong, please forgive me.

ON CAT PAWS

In the beginning, theirs had only been the flimsiest of acquaintanceships, based solely on Leon's constant accusations and D's smooth denials of any wrong doing. Tea and biscuits were frequently exchanged in a semblance of good will and grace, tempers lost and feathers ruffled.

As time slowly passed, they eventually came to an unspoken understanding. The accusations, while still hurled with unfailing regularity, lost their strength and became mere excuses for Leon to spend time at the shop, drinking too sweet tea and relaxing in the presence of D's smile and impeccable hospitality. A friendship of sorts grew between them and Leon found himself seeking out D's advice on his harder to solve cases. And D, to his surprise, found that he didn't mind.

There was no exact moment they could point to and say 'Ah, so here is where it started,' as their relationship became something more, something beyond friendship. It snuck up on them on silent cat paws, softened their hearts, lowered their inhibitions, and took them completely by surprise.

Slowly things had changed between them. Lingering glances and uncertain smiles gave way to awkward moments of unleashed desires. Confusion mixed readily with passion to form a combustible mixture that exploded at unexpected moments. Burst of anger often gave way to fierce kissing sessions that left then both panting, frustrated, and wanting more from each other than they were ready to admit.

Then, one night, passion held sway and the rules of engagement that managed their relationship from the very beginning were first abandoned then rewritten. Tangled in the sheets, arms entwined about each other, drenched with sweat and panting from a most vigorous bout of love play, both Leon and D agreed that what they shared between each other was forbidden by Man, by the gods, and by their respective families.

And yet neither of them could bring themselves to care.
