Unrequited love left a bittersweet taste in her mouth.

One slam of the mahogany frame and he was out of her life and down the hall.

She stood still.

Staring.

Silent.

Clutching onto the hem of her bright pink pyjamas.

Mingling, mixing.

Caressing, kissing.

Making his way through the castle.

Crabbe and Goyle were too stupid.

Zabini too dull.

Flint too boisterous.

Pucey too smug.

But Malfoy was perfect.

The smirk he flashed. The way he spoke. The words he said. The things he liked. The skill he had on a broomstick. The style of his hair. The ability he had to hold his own. The air he exhaled.

Malfoy carried no flaw.

Malfoy could do no wrong.

It wasn't long before he came near the Ravenclaw portrait.

A smug smile greeted him from the right.

A useful excuse.

As long as she was willing, he was her's.

At least until morning.

She couldn't dream that night.

Flashes of his face filled her mind.

Her heart.

Wishful thinking kept her up.

His mind was dark, empty, endless.

Moonlight bounced off of his discarded robes.

His heart was shallow, sullen, numb.

The cool midnight air surrounded him.

And she waited.

All night she waited up.

Because some things are simply worth waiting for.

She was willing to wait forever.
