Heres to the Night

By Ashlyn Alexis

Melissa walked the streets of Brooklyn. She was looking for customers. It was the early evening and the time that the women of the night started to come out of the woodworks. It was a night not like any other…a night that seemed almost magical. A night where it seemed that anything could happen and it might possibly even happen as such.

Meanwhile on another side of town, Spot Conlon sat on his crates looking up at the stars as he thought. His life lately had been full of thoughts. He was nearly 21 and he was still a newsie, which didn't bother him a bit. What did bother him though is that it seemed like every one of his boys was either married, engaged, had kids or was seriously involved with someone. His life had always been one of who he could get to warm his bed for the night and maybe for a few nights afterwards because that's all spot Conlon was, a ladies man and a player. Well he decided that all of that was going to change. At least before he was 22. He sighed as he hopped off of his crates and decided to go for a walk.

Melissa watched every newsie that passed her, attempting to flirt with them, allow them to take her home with them for the night so that she could bring back money for her weeks rent at the "Ladies Home" which was the nice term for "Whore House". Melissa was only 17 and she hated her life already. Her arms were scarred from many nights of cutting and even a few bad scars from suicide attempts. No one loved her; no one wanted to keep her. Plain and simple as that. She was a prostitute. Had been one since she was 13. She had been with over 300 men in those years.maybe more. She chose not to keep perfect count because it made her feel even worse about the whole situation.

Spot walked the streets his mind racing in every since of the word. But his mind came to a complete halt when he saw her. She was beautiful. Her blonde hair shined from the moon glow almost made her look like she had a halo hovering over her head. And her eyes, her eyes were dark blue. A color you did not see often. Spot decided to go up to her.

Melissa watched as the famous leader of Brooklyn came up to her.

"What can I do for ya tonight Mr. Conlon?" she asked him sweetly

"Tell me your name…" spot said with a smile

Meanwhile in another side of town….

Angelstar grinned. Today had been a great day for her and for Wolf. Well he didn't know that it was a great day yet.
