This was a challenge for a LiveJournal community called '30minutefics' where I had to write about my least favourite popular pairing. While Harry/Draco is my least favourite, I surprisingly enjoyed writing it. Who knows, perhaps I have been converted.

It's a short ficlet, which could be a prologue for a future chaptered fic, if I chose to do so.

I own nothing.

Slytherins and Gryffindors are not meant to mix. Like oil and water, they do not mold into one entity with a shared soul. Never has there been a known bond between two members of said houses since Salazar Slytherin and Godric Gryffindor had had their infamous feud. The two founders had unknowingly laid down the ground rules for centuries to follow, unaware of the number of deaths, tears, and scuffles that would occur in the names of Slytherin and Gryffindor.

It was not until the late twentieth century that the traditional hate was to be overlooked – then again, Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy were never ones to follow the rules. The two, while spending a vast amount of their time at Hogwarts hating the other to tiny bits, discovered an unexpected friendship.

The two boys would vent to each other – Harry saying what he dared not reveal to Ron and Hermione, and Draco just content he had someone to confide in.

Friendship turned into attraction. Attraction turned into lust. And lust turned into love. Countless was the number of times the two had spent atop the Astronomy Tower trading feverish, tender kisses within their tight embrace. The contact that they shared was much more than a physical one; they felt the other emotionally; mentally; spiritually. It was as though an invisible safety blanket covered the two boys whenever they were together; they felt safe from harm in the other's arms. They were soul mates – if one were to believe in such things.

They both had never told a single soul about their love. Slytherins and Gryffindors were not meant to mingle. It would be a secret they carried to their graves.

At times they would wonder: would the animosity ever dissolve or was every love between a Slytherin and Gryffindor bound to be reduced to secretive lies? Were there others just like them, hiding away their love as a result of an ancient feud?

Never would they know. Never would anybody know, for the only evidence was held verbally, and, thus, gone.

Disappeared when the two lovers drew their last breath.

So what do you think, should this be the prologue for a chaptered fic?
