JUST A DREAM
Dio woke up all of sudden.
His breath was labored, his hands were trembling and he was sweating. It had been a really vivid dream, it had felt almost real, but it couldn't be; no way vampires and those stand things could have actually existed…
A groan behind him snapped him back to reality. He turned around and he saw his adoptive brother, Jonathan Joestar, who was slowly waking up; the sounds, which would have been barely audible, that he was making, moving under the sheet, echoed in the silent room.
The day before they had won an important rugby match, so they had decided to celebrate drinking some wine and chatting in Dio's room. To an external eye they looked like two brothers who deeply loved each other even if they weren't related by blood; however there still was a subtle but existing tension, due to what had happened when they met for the first time. None of them gave a great attention to that; they were used to it, as if it was the only kind of bond they could have shared.
Then Jonathan had felt asleep, like a baby, and Dio knew that it would have been impossible to carry him to his room – he was too big and heavy- so he decided that he would have shared his bed with his brother, since he had absolutely no intentions to sleep on the floor or, worse, in Jonathan's room. He could have woken him up, and he should have done it, but he decided against it, not because he felt bad but because he could have teased him the day after.
- Dio, is there something wrong? - Jonathan asked with a sleepy voice.
He had sensed a lot of movements beside him, but it had been Dio's muffled scream to definitely wake him up.
Something was bothering his brother, and he was genuinely concerned. Even if he knew that he would have been furious if he had known it and that it would have been very, very difficult to extort something from him, Jonathan was still determined to try.
- Go back to sleep … Jojo. And since you are awake why don't you return to your room? - Dio sharply answered.
He was so shocked that he had even forgotten to tease him, and Jonathan had noticed his hesitation when he pronounced his nickname.
-And then what? Will you start to cry once you will be alone? - he joked, hoping to break the blonde's defenses.
- Ah. Ah. Very funny. And since when have you developed a sense of humor?-, Dio sarcastically replied.
- Then could you please tell me what is wrong? - the other insisted, serious.
It took some time to Dio to answer; he looked focused, as if he was meditating on something very important.
- I just had a bad dream, that's all-, he eventually said.
- You seem pretty shocked by it-, Jonathan stated, not wanting to push him too much; he was slowly opening up and he didn't want to ruin everything.
- I'm not shocked- Dio retorted immediately, narrowing his eyes trying to make and angry face, only to fail miserably due to his sleepiness and, much to his anger, shock, just as Jonathan had told.
Silence followed again, then Dio took a deep breath and he said:
- In my dream I became a vampire then … I don't remember much, but it had passed a thousand years and I was still alive, but now I was able to command a sort of a ghost, a "stand", and I used it to kill-.
At first Jonathan was surprised to actually hear Dio talking, but then he burst into laughter, only to silence himself since it had been still early and he could have woken someone up with all that noise.
- I'm sorry-, he apologized, noticing that the blonde's expression had become even darker.
- It's a very particular dream, but I don't see why you should be so shocked about it-, he added.
- I know it's just that … It had felt so real, like it was really happening-, Dio answered, - I'm not saying that it had been scary, but at least it had been … particular-.
As he was saying those words, he closed his eyes, enjoying the marvelous sensation of immense power that his dream had given to him. However Jonathan had misread his action as an expression of discomfort.
- Don't worry, you are just nervous-, he gently said, laying a hand on the blonde's shoulder to reassure him.
For the third time Dio remained silent and he hadn't even pushed his brother's hand away, which was very strange.
He eventually snorted and said:
- Whatever, I'll just sleep again-, then he lied down on the mattress without saying another word.
Jonathan couldn't tell if he was so grumpy for the dream, or if it was his fault. Maybe touching him hadn't been the best idea…
- Then, I should go-, the young man said as he was getting up, but he was stopped by Dio's voice.
- If you want to stay … I don't mind-, the blonde had murmured, without even opening his eyes.
Jonathan smiled, and he made himself comfortable; it was warm there, and he hadn't actually wanted to leave in the first place.
- Then … Good night, Dio-, he said, closing his eyes and finally relaxing.
The blonde hummed in response and, before falling asleep, he made a mental note to stop poisoning Mr. Joestar and to kill Jonathan first, in fact not only he remembered his entire dream, despite what he had told to his gullible brother, but he was definitely going to check the stone mask.
Author's note: Hello, thanks for reading this, I hope you've enjoyed it!
I don't even remember when I had this idea, it had happened randomly, like all of the other times I have ideas, and I thought that it would be interesting to write something like this. What if all of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure was only a dream? But whose could it be? Of course, it had to be him, Dio! (Sorry for that)
Well Jjba was a dream, yes, but Dio was really poisoning his adoptive father, but thanks to it he had understood exactly what to do. Was that a good thing? I believe not. -Feeldespair
