Disclaimer: DC is not mine (I want to work there tho)
Dick never knows how he ended up here. It was never in his wildest of imaginations. He thought he would grow up still as a circus kid. With parents, all the joy to come, working still under the big tent. He did this lifestyle well for about 9 years.
A man took it all away from him.
Then all the sudden he is a ward of a guardian with money power on his side. Then all the sudden that guardian is THE Batman, thirst for justice. Then all the sudden he's Robin. Things sure escalated quickly.
Beside the tragic past and all the angst he has been through in his life, Dick also has a lot of regret. He tried not to think about it that much, it intervenes with his life and he became moody and broody, he's pretty sure if he keeps it up, he'll end up like Batman (not that Batman is bad but it's just not him).
But as the Young Justice team had a movie night and suddenly the question was asked. "What do you regret the most?" it's a question that got passed around. He's hoping that Artemis and Wally would start bickering as always and forgot about the question. And his hope came true. He never got his turn to answer.
Its 1 am and everyone is fast asleep. Dick, already accustomed to the late night routine back in Gotham, still freshly awake. What did he regret the most? Dick can't believe it, but the question has stuck in his mind ever since.
A lot of things actually. Not doing that biology homework when he got the time, making the wrong decision, not preventing the tragic death of his parent when he could have.
Everyone keeps on saying that is not his fault, but that doesn't really comfort the feeling of guilt and regret that he has failed. He had led that tragic death exists in his life timeline. He could be no better than Zucco himself. What right does he had using the nickname 'Robin'. Did Robin died along with Dick when the red began to bleed on the ground, inside the happy themed tent? After all, Robin is Dick and Dick sure did feel he died inside on that day.
He never believed in resurrection without the power of the Lazarus Pit, but in the midst of his sleeping friends he felt Dick is alive again. Charged with love? Friends? Family? Possibly three of them. It's what keeps the world turning no?
If he was able to redeem his regrets. Just one. Out of all the many regrets which one would he choose? well… after giving it a good thought. It is definitely not doing that biology homework. He can't believe he let that crazy mean teacher saw his mistake. Dick is sure that teacher would never let it go. It is frustrating.
So yeah, Dick maybe do know how he got here. How he lost so much and gain so much. And it is beyond his imagination. Before the tragic and after the tragic. He never thought he would lose it only to regain it again. Love, Family and Friends, its what keeps his world turning.
