Falling Again, a sonic the hedgehog fanfic

Falling again

I came up with this one-shot as I was listening to Lacuna Coil's song 'Falling again' I thought it suited Shadow with his troubled past and his grief for Maria's death.

Shadow stared around him; he was walking in the Countryside outside of the noisy city of station square; his mind was flooded with images with how people saw him. "What am I anyway?" he whispered, "How do people see me?" he stared at his gloved hands, then he removed his gloves and stared at his black hands.

Lay, looking at my hands

I search in these lines

I've not the answer

Shadow clenched his fists, tears welled in his eyes, he knew what he was; people didn't look at him as a hero, unlike that blue-boy faker! He was an anti-hero, and one with a disturbed past, an ultimate life form, yet people thought he had no feelings. He let his tears fall.

I'm crying and I don't know

Watching the sky

I search an answer

He looked up at the sky again, the sun shone down on him, "I do have feelings" he thought, "I do feel!" he thought of the very person who knew that he had feelings. "Maria" he hugged his body tight and more tears fell from his blood red eyes.

He then remembered this was the anniversary of her death, he could never forget that gruesome image, he collapsed to his knees unable to control his tears, he could feel Maria's cold sweaty hand around his as she followed him as they were running from the GUN Army.

I'm free, free to be

I'm not another liar

I just want to be myself… myself

Shadow touched himself, "I know I'm real" he whispered "I know I have feelings!" he clenched his fist again, "I know I felt emotions as I ran from GUN with her, I was terrified for her safety, I felt grief and sadness as she was gunned down in front of my eyes!

And now the beat inside me

Is a sort of a cold breeze?

And I've never any feeling inside

Ruining me…

Bring my body

Carry it into another world

I know I live… but like a stone I'm falling down

He knew he was alive, but he was alive because Maria made him promise to stay alive for her, of course he was staying alive for her, it was a promise and he promised never to let go, yet even though he was alive and breathing in body his soul was falling like a stone and would one day break.

I pray, looking into the sky

I can feel this rain

Right now it's falling on me

Fly, I just want to fly

Life is all mine

Some days I cry alone,

But I know I'm not the only one

I'm here, another day is gone

I don't want to die…?

Please be there when I'll arrive, don't cry… please

Shadow looked down at the gun he had in his hand, he had killed many creatures with it, he had killed some of the GUN army who attacked him, he studied it for a long time, the feeling was coming to him again, the want for death, but yet something stopped him from doing so, was it Maria's promise, her spirit telling him he had to carry on, even if he had fulfilled his promise, did she still want him to live on, even if she was gone, and he felt like he couldn't survive.
