A.N.- This fic is based off of another known as "The Geode Gems Season 1" by mstotaldrama100 so please go read that first before this one.
This also has an interesting point of view: It is a conversation (albeit a rather one-sided one) between Ruby and Steven about a particular gem Steven has just come across that seems to know a lot more than she should.
Again, thank you mstotaldrama100 for the inspiration, I hope you and others enjoy it! -CrookedMouse
At first, I was always rash, even worse than I am now! I was a brute gem, a gem only used for front lines combat and no other reason.
Sapphire was…an oracle… She had future vision which allowed her to see so many possibilities. She kept using it and getting caught up in all the visions she had to keep still. One time, she got a vision while we were walking and ended up smacking straight into a tree! Yeah…
We got put together on missions for a while and at first, our views were so different, we could barely stand each other but…after a while of talking and fighting…we started to…connect.
Of course, it was all under wraps because homeworld despises that sort of relationship but as soon as we joined the rebels, we had no problem showing it to everyone! Well…at least in a couple decades; we got some pretty nasty looks from gems… Anyways.
We were so close, we managed to fuse during a battle. No dancing, just our trust in one another and our love… It felt…amazing.
I've never felt so complete in my life… We were…Garnet.
"…What was she like?" Oh, you'd love her, Steven. She was taller than Opal! She looked like me mostly but you could definitely tell Sapphire was there to and she had these huge gauntlets that could rocket off-… But man… Garnet was her own gem. It was beautiful. She was beautiful.
We even stayed as Garnet for years; we didn't want to be apart… But…it came to an end too soon…
"…She sounded cool." She was. Anyways, that's not what I'm supposed to be talking about, is it?
It was after the war when things started getting…strained. We were already strained from fighting off former allies and friends and finding new shards and… It was rough.
But… One day, Rose found something in the kindergarten. It was a gem. She wasn't one of the homeworld's pawns… She grew there and was left alone…
Sapphire saw so many possibilities of it ending badly. She could betray us, she could send homeworld, homeworld could come back for her! Sapphire wanted us to get rid of the gem…but I couldn't. She reminded me too much of myself when I was first made.
She was small, afraid of anyone who came near her, so unused to everything, and she gave the strangest looks I've seen!
So, when at first she started to live with us, I offered to take up most of the time to care for her. We all took turns, yeah, but I wanted to make sure the kid had someone other than Rose.
…I argued so much with Sapphire about her…
It all came to a point when the kid had finally grown up. She had her own feelings, her own decisions to make… And she chose one so like mine and Sapphire's that it unraveled everything…
…She took the warp pad…and I never saw her again.
I kept looking…hoping that she would come back but…nothing… After that… I kept going out, trying to find her. I was desperate. I didn't even pay attention to anything happening with the Geode Gems!
But…then Rose told us she was pregnant with you.
"…D…did I make it…worse?" N-no, Steven! That's the opposite!
Of course at first I was…unstable, but the point is that I decided that I shouldn't look in the past anymore after that!
The future was coming up, YOUR future!
Because of you, I started looking around me again. I started living again.
I may not get Sapphire back or get her to realize what's happening in the present.
But I have you Steven, and I won't let her damage that.
