A/N: This is a gift-fic for the lovely AquiXia, who requested a LupinxTonks piece. I'm so sorry that you had to wait this long for something this short. :O It's also my first attempt at writing LupinxTonks, so I hope you enjoy! ...Despite the fact that this isn't exactly happy and fluffy.

The silence in the small room was unbearable at this point and it hung around them like a thick curtain of smoke. You could practically hear a pin drop. In fact, it felt as though someone had just died...again.

Eventually, it was Remus who broke the palpable silence by taking a shuddering breath and removing his hands from his face. "Are you absolutely sure?"

He didn't dare to look at his wife, afraid that his eyes would give away his fear. Because if she was right...everything would change.

Tonks nodded, licking her dry lips, but then she realized that he didn't see it. "Yes, I'm sure. So… What do we do now?"

Lupin said nothing, not trusting his voice. Instead, he walked over to her and quietly pulled her in a tight embrace, taking in the faint scent of her shampoo. At once, Tonks noted that he was shaking. This only made her more scared of his reaction, which he still refused to display.

"Remus?"

"How long?" he managed to bring out with a quavering voice.

Tonks took a deep breath, before telling him. "About two months... Are you mad?"

"Of course not," he replied weakly, tightening his hold on her.

Was that really why she thought he was acting like this; because he didn't want to have a child with her? Needless to say, the opposite was true, but this hidden desire also brought lots of dangers on their path, which was exactly what he'd been trying to avoid. He didn't want to hurt her any more.

"It's not the best timing, though," she remarked softly, and for a moment, all Remus could feel was a stabbing pain near his heart.

"It doesn't matter," he whispered, brushing a violet bang out of her eyes. "We'll get through this."

...Even if he didn't know how. She was right, the timing wasn't perfect, what with the war going on, but that was the least that bothered him.

Just when he'd started to feel more comfortable about their marriage, this had to happen. How could he possibly be happy when their child could be infected with lycanthropy, like himself?
