Shooting Star That Made You Smile

Squall Leonhart stood on the Balamb Garden balcony, away from all the celebrations and like. For tonight was a night where everyone could relax and celebrate the death of Sorceress Ultimecia.

Beside Squall, stood Rinoa Heartilly; the girl that had turned his life upside - down, and had shown him that there was more to life than just fighting battles, eating and sleeping.

"Hi Squall," said Rinoa cheerfully, just after she had approached him. Instead of answering her greeting, Squall just said, "What are you doing out here? Don't you want to join in the celebrations?"

Rinoa shook her head. "No, not really. Usually I like parties, but this one's different." She put her hands behind her back and started shifting her feet.

". Why?"

"Well. um. you see, everyone keeps talking about Ultimecia's defeat, and how evil she was."

"So?" Squall's eyes seemed curious.

"So, they also said that sorceresses are evil, good-for-nothing and stupid." on saying this, Rinoa looked down.

Squall sighed. "Rinoa, they didn't say that did they?"

Rinoa blushed. "No, but you could tell that they were thinking that."

Squall looked at the stars, then back at Rinoa.

"Why else did you come here?" he asked.

"What do you mean?" questioned Rinoa.

"Well if you were sad about that sorceress abuse stuff, you could have just gone into your dorm room."

". I suppose you're right," said Rinoa. "Actually, the real reason I came out here was. to see you." Rinoa looked at Squall.

Squall folded his arms. "How'd you know to come here?"

Rinoa smiled warmly. "I figured you'd be here, since you hate socializing with people." At this remark, Rinoa giggled.

". Whatever," said Squall.

Suddenly, a great shooting star flew past quite slowly, and Rinoa pointed at it, just like she had done at the SeeD Graduation Ball.

Then something strange happened. Squall, the introvert that hadn't wanted to know anyone or talk to anyone, smiled. He actually smiled, and it wasn't just a small, embarrassed little smile, it was a real smile.

This act made Rinoa very surprised because she had never seen Squall smile before. (It wasn't something he did very often - in fact; it wasn't something he did at all.)

Rinoa moved closer to Squall and slipped her arms round his waist. After staring into Rinoa's big, brown, pleading eyes, Squall, (rather reluctantly,) put his arms around Rinoa's back. And so, Squall Leonhart and Rinoa Heartilly shared their first kiss.
