It was a humid night in Spinner's End, especially without air conditioning in the decrepit house. If you happened to know which room Severus Snape slept in, and felt like peeking in, you would see he was asleep with no covers on, and was thrashing about in a fever-induced sort of way. However, only if you had known him all your life, you would know what he was thinking. Even unconscious, he had a certain look he wore when he thought about one person-Lily Evans.

There was a sudden rapping on the thin window pane. Severus merely turned over. Not the response the woman at the window expected. She took out her wand , pointed to the window, and quickly muttered a few words under her breath. The window magically unlocked, and she crawled through it.

"Sev!" she said as she tried to wake up the young man. He instantly woke up. The woman continued talking.

"I almost thought you were having a seizure, Sev! You nearly gave me a heart attack." Severus focused his eyes and got out of bed. He knew that voice, and he knew there was only one person on earth who called him Sev-or at least did. But it couldn't be, could it?

"Lily? I thought you were in Godric's Hollow, planning for the wedding." he said in disbelief. "And why are you here, in my house? I thought you hated me." Lily took off her cloak, tiptoed to the bed, and sat down next to Severus. The floor squeaked under the pressure of both of them . Up close, Severus saw that Lily's face was red, and her eyes were swollen, as if she had been...crying?

"I couldn't sleep. Especially not in the same bed as James. I dunno, it just felt...wrong to me, I guess." She wiped a tear off of her cheek with the cloak.

"So you come to the house of the man that you hate more than hate itself?" Severus stated incredulously. "I mean, really? What if James finds out that you've been here? What will he think of you? What will he think of me?" He was afraid to say "we". It had been years since he could say "we" and not get a lump in his throat.

"Don't be ridiculous, Sev. He won't find out, mostly because there isn't anything to find out. Anyways, this is the last place he'd expect me to be. I just came here for support. From my best friend."

This is when Severus started tearing up a bit, too. Lily hadn't referred to them as friends since they were fifteen.

"Lily. You know I will never be happy about you marrying James as long as I live. I hate him, he hates me. You hate me. I'll always love you. Happy ending for Lily and James, while Severus gets to die alone in this hellhole."

"That's not what I came here to do; boast about my future. I came here to apologize."

Severus choked on his own saliva.

"Our friendship shouldn't have ended by two words. I know there was other stuff besides that, but I was talking to Dumbledore the other day, and he said something that changed my whole train of thought."

"What was it" Asked Severus. Knowing Albus, it was probably something long and wordy.

"It was simple: Forgive and Forget. And that's what I'm doing now." An electronic beep sounded from the wristwatch on the table. 12:00 A.M.

"I have to go know, James always wakes up at midnight for pumpkin juice, he'll wonder where I am." she said as she rushed to get her things together. Just as she was about to leave, she went back, and hugged Severus.

"You know I'll miss seeing you, right Sev?" she asked. He didn't answer. He was afraid that if he opened his mouth, he'd start bawling, and Lily would think he was a baby.

"You be a good boy, and don't go drinking a bottle of mead tomorrow."

She opened the window, and hopped outside.

Severus cried himself to sleep. When he woke up, he didn't remember a thing.
