a kid gives me a lizard
I sat alone at lunch. I always did, but I never really mind. It's barely the second week of school here at Goode High, my sophomore year, that is. The only reason I got into this place was because of my mom's boyfriend Paul Blofis, who just so happens to be my English teacher. It's hard for me some times, with Paul and all, because sometimes in class I'll call him Paul instead of Mr. Blofis.
And sometimes when I say Blofis it comes out as blowfish.
You see, I'm a demi-god, the cross between a mortal and a Greek god. The marks of a demi-god are dyslexia, ADHD, or sometimes even ADD! So you can imagine it being hard to keep track of things.
Anyway, I was sitting alone until my friend (and I'm putting a lot of emphasis on the fact that I have yet again one, single, friend) Justin came by and sat across from me.
"hey man," I started, "why so glum?"
"nothin', just Brooke"
"AGAIN?"
"shut baaahhhhh up!, but yeah her again…" that's right. Justin was a satyr. He dressed almost exactly like Grover, except instead of a cap, he wore Russian hats.
"so what's up with her?" I asked trying to be as gentle as I could, all satyrs are the same, really emotional.
"well, actually, she broke up with me…"
"aw, man. I'm sorry dude. How-"
"the giants game."
"you took her with you?"
"no,no…it…happened by text…"
I could see his eyes getting watery.
"well, it's not like she's the only one for you man."
"yeah, I….. guess you're right." And with that, he left.

I was standing outside after lunch when this kid I've never seen walks up to me and asks, "hey do you want to see a lizard?'
"uh-"
"It only has one eye…"
"uh-"
"here!" he tossed the lizard to me and ran. I never saw the kid again.

I kept the lizard. It had a strange glow to it. Who knows, it might be cursed.
After school I called my girlfriend, Annabeth, to invite her to a movie. She's a demi-god too, daughter of Athena. And, just for the record, I'm son of Poseidon, god of the sea. We'd been going out since the second war of Olympus (long story) and ever since we've been getting along soooooooo much better.
Anyway, I called her after school. Us demi-gods really try not to use cellphones because it's like sending up a flare to monsters: I'm here! Please come and flip me inside out! But talking to Annabeth always seems like a big exception. I planned to tell her a bout the lizard after the movie.
I picked her up at her house, in my new car of course.
"hey, seaweed brain," that was her favorite nickname for me, "what movie are we seeing?"
"that's up to you, babe."
"don't call me that!" she playfully nudged me.
"why not?"
"because-"
"because what?"
"because, it's dorky."
"what makes it dorky?"
"I don't know. It just is."
I smiled, and, thank the gods, she smiled back. Her smile was so warm and welcoming and so was her kiss. Weird, it was the first uninterrupted kiss we'd had since we started dating. It was a long one, and after a while, we had to pull away for air. But Annabeth said we should get to the movie and finish there.
