Snowman
The snow muted sound, disappeared Alma and the girls' laughter into nothing-white. The snowfall thickened until it obscured the sight of them, and he was in a world all his own, alone out on the valley floor. He imagined Jack there with him, their house, Jack's laughter.
"Look, daddy, we built a snowman!" Jenny's enthusiasm burst forth just as she did-- a specter from the white whorl.
"Sure did, honey." He could not restrain a smile at his daughter's joy. After all, he'd built a snowman too-- he understood. It made you feel less alone until it melted into the ether.
