His Someday Girl

"Why Lisa?" Sam had been rolling the question back and forward in his mind since he had called her on the off chance that Dean might have, only to find that he'd actually taken time out to go visit.

Dean looked up from the gun that he was cleaning and frowned. "Why Lisa what?"

"On your little death run, you picked her out of, I don't know, hundreds of girls Dean. Why?"

"Don't know," his brother answered cagily going back to the task at hand, sighing as he heard Sam edge closer.

"Must be some reason." Sam paused as the thought hit him. "Ben isn't yours, is he?"

Angry eyes flashed at him as Dean tossed the gun down on the covers and reached for a rag to wipe his hands. "What do you think this thing I feel is guilt? Is that what you think. I knocked her up and feel bad about it? No. I already told you, kid ain't mine."

"She was the one that you dreamed about though as well, back with Jeremy and the dream root," Sam pushed.

"Why do you want to know? I just wanted to say goodbye, so I said goodbye. No biggy. Can we drop this now?"

Sam shrugged. "It's okay if you don't want to tell me," he said puppy dog eyes on full beam.

"Jesus," Dean huffed and wiped at his face. "She was my someday girl, alright?"

Sam frowned, brows knitting in the middle of his forehead. "Someday girl?"

Dean rolled his eyes and took a sip of the beer he'd had sitting on the table next to him. "You know, as in someday, if I could have a life, I could picture myself with her. She's my hope that maybe, when this is all over, I can have a future Sam. You never had a someday girl?" He wished the world would swallow him as soon as the words where out. "Sam I'm sorry…."

His brother held up his hand. "No, I get it now Dean and yeah, I had my someday girl," Sam replied, the pain in his eyes not quite masked.

"Jess isn't a someday girl Sam. She's the real deal," Dean offered.

"Was Dean. Jess was the real deal." Sam sat silent for a moment before he asked, "do you think it'll ever happen, you and Lisa?"

"I don't know, maybe, someday ?" Dean laughed gently when he realised what he'd just said.

Sam just shook his head and laughed softly too. "Yeah, someday."
