The traveller

For about a week now Garill had been seeing a young child wandering around Fort Hateno. The child, dressed in dirtied traditional Hyrulean garb, never seemed to do anything other than scavenge for mushrooms and the like. He never spoke and never slept (that Garilll could see). Simply put, he was somewhat disturbed. Why was the child, for he could not be much older than 16, on his lonesome?

On the morning of the seventh day, the boy finally came over to see Garill. The boy was dressed in the same clothes and seemed rather tired. Finally able to see the boy up close, Garill was horrified at what he saw. He looked emaciated, as if he hadn't had a hearty meal in a long time, and was clearly suffering from the numerous injuries visible on his person.

Had he gotten on the wrong side of a Bokogoblin? A dark bruise near the bright blue eyes of the child seemed to indicate such. A Bokogoblin in these parts fought only with wooden weapons- for the time being anyway.

Not wanting to seem rude, Garill chose a completely random topic to start the conversation.

"Hiya! My name is Garill. Come to see Fort Hateno, I take it?"

The blue-eyed boy nodded. "That's right."

"Figured as much," he lied. Garill knew the look of a traveller when he saw one. This mere boy was not a traveller, there was something off about him. His mannerisms spoke of someone older, nobler and, most importantly, someone used to fighting.

"It's well worth seeing." he continued, not really thinking about his words but trying to engage the warrior, "Fort Hateno here was the last line of defence between Hateno village and the awful tragedy all those years ago."

That elicited a response. There was a vague understanding in his face as if he knew of the fighting all those years past but it was clear that this was a new piece of information. How odd, Gartill thought to himself.

"Do you know the story of the warrior who fought here at Fort Hateno?" Garill asked. It was clear that the boy knew something, the was he fidgeted minutely and tensed was clear evidence of the fact and yet he responded with a simple "No, tell me."

It was clear he wouldn't be getting a verbal response from the still nameless child and, for some reason, that was okay.

By nature, Garill was a curious man so backing down from a mystery was quite unknown to him yet he felt that it wouldn't be right to press. The secrets hidden were large and world-changing- or so he felt.

Truth be told, Garill had no reason to think that blond kid was hiding any secrets. It didn't even make sense to him.

After he answered the command to tell the child about the warrior, Garill didn't bother to speak to Link again. It was for the best. So Link continued his journey into finding the truth of his past and saving the princess. Still by himself, Still half-dead but full of determination to be of "some threat to the forces of darkness."
