"Jamie's Guilt"
At 2:00 AM one morning at the home of Richard, Darlene, Rachel, and Jamie Carruthers, 14 year old Jamie was looking out the window sadly—feeling great guilt and remorse. Just then her 18 year old sister Rachel entered, and sat down next to her on the couch. "Jamie, it 2 in the morning. Why aren't you in your room?" "I can't sleep Rachel" Jamie sadly replied. Rachel could tell by the sad tone in her voice that something was wrong.
"What's wrong Jamie?" Rachel asked. Jamie turned to her and replied "It's my fault Rachel! It's all my fault Rachel!" "What's your fault Jamie?" Rachel asked. "Your death" Jamie replied. "How is that your fault? You were only eight years old at the time" Rachel said. "It's because I didn't die in that car crash with my real parents like I should have! I had to survive, you and your parents had to adopt me, and you had to die because of it!" Jamie cried—ice cold tears rolling down her cheeks.
Rachel placed her hands on her shoulders and firmly told her "Jamie, I never want to hear you talk like that ever again! It was not your fault what happened to me that morning! It was mine. I should never have gone into your room when I heard your picture break in it! I should have ran downstairs, called Loomis back, and he would have told me to get out of the house!" "He did do that, you called the police, and they didn't find my uncle in your closet!" Jamie cried—a sobbing tone in her voice.
"Well that was their fault for not searching this house properly. To this day I wonder why Sheriff Meeker hired such incompetent policemen!" Rachel replied, "I also wasn't myself then. All the therapy and antidepressants I was put on after the 1988 murders to help with my trauma made me too happy and carefree—as if the 1988 murders never even happened! Plus me hanging out with a major airhead like Tina didn't help either".
"But Tina was your best friend. I loved her" Jamie said confused. "I know you did. But you didn't know the real her. And neither did I when I first met her. I had to learn her true colors the hard way, when she acted happy that I wasn't home when she came by right after I had been killed. Oh I was home alright. She just couldn't see or hear me. And then when she mercilessly left you to go to The Tower Farm, when you were begging and pleading her to stay. That told me everything I needed to know about her right then!" Rachel replied.
"But she saved me—she sacrificed herself for me" Jamie said. "Actually no she didn't. I did. I possessed her body. I made her jump in front of that knife, knowing she wouldn't be caring enough or brave enough to do it by her own free will" Rachel replied. "Oh" Jamie said in a disappointed tone, knowing she had been wrong about Tina as a child. Jamie now didn't feel so guilty. "All these years I didn't know all that" Jamie said. "Well know you know. C'mon let's go back to our rooms" Rachel replied then paused for a moment. "On second thought, would you feel better sleeping with me in my room until morning?" she asked.
"Rachel we're dead. We don't need sleep" Jamie replied. "I know, but that's never stopped us before" Rachel said. "True" Jamie replied. The two ghost sister got up from the couch, and left the living room. They walked down the hallway to Rachel's room. They entered and got into Rachel's bed—lying beside each other. "Goodnight Jamie" Rachel said. "Goodnight Rachel" Jamie replied. They closed their eyes and went to sleep.
The End
